VaS newbie questions

I am new to VaS. I have played a few games and had a couple of questions.

1. Does smoke protect the ship that puts it up? It seems logical that ships shooting from the rear can't without radar since they are crossing the smoke, but how about from the front? The smoke starts at the center point and distance and sight are measured to the center point.

2. Can planes land on ships other than the one they took off from? If you have two carriers and one is destroyed, can the planes from either land and refuel/reload on the remaining carrier?

Thanks for the input. I'm loving the game by the way. Straight forward rules, but lots of tactics.

yes but each ship can only hold there original amount but if some are destroyed then they can land on the other carrier. or at nerby Landing strip if available but are probably out of game unless thats part of the scenario. at least thats how I play it
I have not used smoke yet so that I would have to look up in the rules.
