Q: how exactly does the firing arc template work?
I see you have four 90 degree arcs, and can see how various weapons are allocated, however the 90 degree arcs do not meet in the middle, which makes sense given a ship is long and thin. nor does the point of the front and rear arc line up with the front and rear of the ship.
Given each ship model is a different length how does this actually work? Do you draw the 90 degree "X" centred on the middle of the ship or are the arcs literally off set by about half an inch to the bow and stern? (in which case why bother?)
Have made up some counters whereby the ship is on a rectangle of card and have the arcs as 90 degrees going through the corners of the base, which makes sense but is probably 'wrong', but looking to keep this simple by having the arcs actually on the bases of models, just wondering where you are intended to draw the arcs from?
Note for VAS 2, if the arcs are not "obvious" suggest a product for the ship as a clear plastic template you can put alongside the port/starboard side of the craft in question to answer this.
Given the rules suggest the only bit of the model that actually matters is the central point all measurements are taken from a literal 'X' seems to make a level of sense and is at least easy to measure. E.g. it is noted to measure from and draw arcs from this point - but the template provided on the following page shows you do something else..
