Why should you expect a "good deal" when bidding on eBay? If I have something that valuable I certainly am not going to low bid whatever the starting value is just because someone might want to get lucky and not pay the going rate. Besides, $20 each for three grizzlies *is* lower than the going rate, see the post I made earlier about what the last three went for which was about $25-30 each.
Sorry, expecting some kind of windfall on eBay is naive at best. It's no longer the big garage sale in the sky where people are willing to just dump things to get rid of them. It's for people to sell what they have at what they think is a reasonable price. Based on what the items are worth, I think the guy is completely reasonable with a starting bid that's set a little bit lower than what the last batch went for which IMO is fair. It's not like I would put my Magic the Gathering: Arabian Nights set out there for $500 just so someone can "get lucky." As a seller I certainly don't owe anyone a way to get something for less than it's actually worth. Sorry to burst your bubble on that one .
JMO...
On an unrelated note, anyone else notice that Matt's been dumping some of his SST minis on eBay?
I realize that you're not always going to get a good deal but there are times that you do, which is why I still go there (and get really good deals). So, honestly, Its not naive to think this way.
My gripe, and its my gripe to gripe, is that greed sometimes takes the funny out of acquiring. The flipping box was 30ish (if that). When I sell or trade, I don't expect to be making double of what i paid for it but, back to my first sentence, is my gripe
Just cuz its the status quo, doesn't mean its a good status quo
