Vallejo Paint Choices for USN

Can anyone help me out with Vallejo paint choices for painting USN ships? I am concentrating on the Battle of Coral Sea and colour pics I have seen show the US Navy to have dark grey blue as the main overall hull colour. Any vallejo advice appreciated.
Cheers

I use Polly S but seeing that you are in Australia.

I would go with Vallejo Model Air Paint 054 Dark Blue Gray Scale
and a suitable highlight

If you are really into Model Color try 904 Dark Blue Grey and 905 Blue Gray Pale

I use pre-war decks. Specifically, Yellow or Tan Colors, although not yet complete my Essex Class carrier will attempt to mimic a freshly laid deck by using Orange Red to try to bring the the illusion of the mahogany decking used on US carriers. I saw a color movie from the US Navy archives on TV and was impressed.

The real problem with small models is that if you paint them in the "real colors" they are 1. Too Dark and 2. Hard to distinguish so Use a lightened up version of the paints. check out Agis Neugebauer's site. here is a link to his Royal Navy.

Agis hangs out here and you can probably ask him questions.

Good painting!
