US Distribution

Spence

Mongoose
OK, so things are going out for direct sales and it looks like a turning point has been reached. Both for items listed at Mongoose as in stock and Mongoose direct pre-orders.

But many gamers have been cut out of the game because all of the local US distributors still list everything except the rulebook as Not Yet Available or Out of Stock.

Back at the initial release I had over 30 people at my FLGS that were really interested in playing and a big push to set up league play and some local tournaments. I had managed to get one Fed and one Kling Sqd box and used it for a couple demos but then the floor fell through. The number of people that are asking now is steadily dropping as interest dies because no product is available.

When will there be shipments to actual distribution companies. Not direct sales, but stuff that will actually make it to the FLGS. 90% of my local area games at a FLGS, not at home in the basement. This has led to the domination of mini’s gaming by Warhammer or Warmachine with other games (including practically all historical) to be virtually non-existent. I have only seen a handful of historical games being run at any of the local cons over the last 3 years and they are usually Flames of War (since that line is actually supported for both rules and figures).

ACTA:SF was actually a godsend for mini’s. Rules + Miniatures being actually supported via actual distributors. That is it was until the mini’s dried up.

No don’t get me wrong, I really want to run/demo ACTA:SF but I have been hiding from my FLGS because I hate not having any answers for any body and “well Mongoose is supporting direct sales right now, but the distributors have nothing” gets old.

So for now I will not be promoting the game until I actually receive in hand the ships I ordered via my FLGS several months ago. And my specific question is this.

"Have you shipped any product (excluding the rulebook) to any US Distributors and if not, can we expect it any time soon?"

I'd like to add that this is a big deal for me too. My local game store has game nights almost every night for no charge and buying through him supports our game nights. I believe, Alliance is his distributor.

I've already ordered the rule book and will be playtesting with cardboard chits until a decent stock of minis come in.

We're hoping to get a campaign game started in a month or two. Love to have minis available.

On a similar note, have there been any recent shipments to distributors in Canada, too?

(I've been waiting for my own FLGS to see if they can get even the rulebook in, and without much success so far...)

Shipmnts to distributors will start to go at the end of this coming week...

Any ideas what kinds of material? Fleet or squadron boxes?

I'll put in my order with the local guy on Thursday if I know what can be expected.

That is the Klingon and Federation fleet and squadron sets - Romulans will appear about two weeks after.

you're killing me here! are you saying the romulans are still two weeks from now!?
or is that just with distribution or what?

I'm pretty sure he means just to the US distributors.

Thanks.

I'll go ahead and put in my order for the Fed and Klingon Fleets.

I really hope you guys can work out the Gorn/drone issues. This has the makings of a great game.

I have some blank counters and I will try to find some people to playtest with this week.

I was answering a question about distribution.

Lol, we've been waiting for months now, why is two more weeks such a big problem for you?

Well, I know this topic is about distribution so I won't go too deep into it- but my problem is that
the only answer I keep hearing is "week after next" or "two more weeks" now, its supposed to be about demand and quality problems and the delay is so we can have a quality product- yet in a few posts in the "yes I have a fleet box" topic people are still having problems with their pieces- some stuff is even missing in their boxes- so whats going on here?! I'm not in it as much as some people-but I've got about $450.00 in this game-and all I have is a rulebook, and a klingon squadron box I got from ADB! it would be more but I cancelled one of my orders because of this delay nonsense- so when I'm told my stuff is right around the corner(which I was told) and "any day now" and then I read more about delays- I get upset.

So when is 2 more weeks a problem? when that 2 weeks has taken (so far) a month and a week.

Maybe they will come on Tuesday. Along with the tractor beam and phasers? lol

I'm hoping distribution issues will soon be resolved. I'd love to get some fleets and do some demos at the LGS.

I finally got my Fleet box and squadron box of Klingon and Federation ships Thursday at my LGS after a nearly 2 month wait. They were all resin with dreadnought engine pods being the only metal parts. (they fit perfectly with the resin body after carving off the extra resin flashing).

While I am glad I got resin, the flash problems are really bad. I don't mind trimming a thin line of extra flash, but when their are voids in the mold and extra blobs of material it is not fun. Overall though the detail on each ship with resin is incredible, and most of the void/blob areas are not in high visibility areas and are fixable. I did get one E4 frigate that had an air bubble in the neck between the body and bridge that left just a thin hollow tube of material that broke off as soon as I touched it. I suppose I can fill it and glue it, but that was disappointing as well.

My store ordered extra fleet and squadron boxes as well, so I bought one more of each to help round out the fleets (and be sure I had all resin), I am awaiting some of the other races to release for my other son to choose from and then do some individual purchases for ships I develop special group/squadron strategies for.

BTW, my hardcover rulebook also arrived.

(Thanks Spence for introducing this at our LGS and for the tips)

Had to add a work in progress photo from my first game with my new ships. My son and I had to get a battle in before they were completed, we could not wait any longer. We were trying out the gravity well rule with a planet. The Klingons look to be at a disadvantage here, but won the day losing one DN (1 DN, 1 D6,& 1 D7C remaining) while the Feds lost their entire fleet, 2 DN, & 2 CS (before adding errata changes) The Feds never got initiative, mostly due to bad rolls.

4 Month, here. Received the Federation fleet box I ordered for a friend, the Klingon one was supposed to be shipped this week (and, SURPRISE ! No mail so far indicating so...), and i'm still waiting for my Romulan fleetbox. And of course, cancelling is now out of the question, I can't just let a friend with +-90 euros of unusable ships... Well played, Mongoose.

Got my Klingon fleet box today.

Impressed. I've gone over the F5s and E4s in detail and cleaned them up, all fine. The D5s I've tried dry fitting, again good. The C7 engines seem like they'd be a bit prone to falling off.

Downside - The C8 is missing all it's engines.

So I'll go through the all resin Fed fleet box I've got (from which I've completed three ships), make a list of all the miscast parts from it and send one long email rather than two smaller emails for the replacement parts.

However I may be able to start painting my Klingons tomorrow.

I received my Klingon fleet box yesterday.
Over all, the metal ships are great ad will need little to no clean-up.

One of hte D6 has it's neck bent 90 degrees. I hope I can fix it w/o breaking it, but we'll see.
One ofthe F5s was laying across the other in the pack and it's boom is also bent to about 60 degrees, but it's a gentle curve running the length of the boom and can be fixed.

The C8 OTOH...
Much flash all around the mold where the two halves met...
Very prominent filling lugs left on the underside (3 of them)...
Bulges from filling lugs on both wings where the engines attach...
No mounting holes underneath the boom for hte center warp engine...
No stand hole...
One huge bubble in the resin underneath the bulb at the front of the boom...
And so on...
It will take longer to fix this one mini than it will to clean up all the other minis in the box combined!

That's discouraging that Mongoose didn't slow down and produce acceptable C8 models. I'd be ticked if I got that. You ought to send that crappy mini back. :(
