Updating the SRDs?

stop trying to turn this into a CaptJack/EDG discussion.

Yeah, no kidding.

The "Captainjack vs Evil Dr Ganymede" roleplaying system(tm) is explicitly not OGL, nor are its suppliments "peanut gallery agents provocateur" and "Bathrobes and keyboards, the game of internet RPG criticism".

Don't make me have to C&D your sarcastic gamer ass...;)

I really don't see anything funny about our arguments. Or what they have to do with this discussion.

You constantly claim the right to respond to snarky comments as you see fit, regardless of thread content or direction, so I will too. That I try to use humor rather than outrage is my business.
If you can see thru your annoyance, you may note that I'm gently chiding the poster, not mocking you, just in case that was your concern. In fact, I think our arguments are far from funny, except possibly for those who enjoy dogfight kind of entertainments.
Otherwise, what you see, or fail to see in my post is also your business, and not mine. Now hopefully that answers your implied question, and we can move on.

For some reason I just remembered the famous First Rule of Ichthyoid
Survival: "If it looks like a hook, do not swallow it." :)

Oh look, another thread derailed. What the hell does any of this have to do with updating the SRDs?

OK. Here's what's going to happen. I'm not going to play Captainjack's games anymore.

Everyone here is sick of this. I'm certainly sick of this. So jack can have the last word for all I care. He's welcome to it. I long for the day when this board gets upgraded because then I don't have to read his crap ever again because I can put him on an ignore list, but until then, I'm just going to have to make him invisible to me. I've put up with this for far too long, and so has everyone else.

He (and anyone else who does this) can bait and taunt and tease and mock and poke all they like, but I'm not going to give them the satisfaction of ruining things for me and everyone else again.

That is all. I am really, genuinely sorry to everyone else who's had to put up with this crap, I really am. I don't want it to happen, but it takes two to tango. This dancer is stepping off the floor, so he'll have to dance alone from now on. Or find someone else to harrass.

But I'm not leaving, I'm going to carry on posting as I normally do, and continue to have decent conversations with everyone else here. Because I refuse to let someone like him drive me off this board.

Er, yes, as we were saying!

Any thoughts, ideas, or plans to update the various SRDs with the new skills and rules bits and pieces that are in the books released since Mercenary and High Guard?

...just wondering out loud, doncherknow ;)

It could uses a bit of updating. Really doesn't need much if the core mechanic is gone over and solidified, then you incorporate the High Guard stuff, and then finally add an Index for the locations for everything else so folks can go get the other stuff as needed.

That gives you a foundation for OGL srd stuff to move forward on while pointing out the avenues for the other material as well.

But I still want my next Traveller Product, to be EDG Vs CaptainJack : Kaiju Battle Forum! SOY!!!!!

YES! I think that will appeal to the entire D&D4e crowd, outselling the endless number of books.

Well 4e for sure, but I think it would fit for a better Card Game, and perhaps even include some boffer elements.

On topic again, the main thing I'd like to see is the design sequences combined - rather than having basic and advanced sections to have to comb thru. Item and weapon tables would be good, for the same reason.

Yeah actually combining those sections would be helpful. Kind of lean along those lines myself.

That makes a lot of sense, even go so far as making a hyperlinked PDF version ?

Rog.

Anyone should be able to do that with the existing SRD if they wanted to. The OGL allows you to copy it over if needed.

If anyone had the time to put everything into one file, nice little searchable PDF that added everything from the basic SRD, the Mercenary additions and the HG additions (you could even add the B5 stuff). All in one nice easy document.

Don't add anything, just reformat what is already published.

VERY convenient.

Yep which is what I did.

Eventually. I've got to figure out where I stashed it in the old hard drive. Been working nothing but 16 hour days since I got back from Gencon, so it's been a bit hectic. What I did though was recompile the SRD as it is, and then added, the stuff I wanted, reformatted it's structure a bit and when I get time, I'm going to lay it all out in acrobat give it a proof read then hit the GO button.

That SHOULD, give me the SRD I want, including the Core mechanics of Mercenary and Highguard, and the nifty stuff from B5 and Dredd, if I don't screw it up since I'm more or less Ooog the Caveman when it comes to computerized stuff. Hell, I still use a Typewriter.

Thing is with an SRD, what you want is MECHANICS. you want as minimal setting info as possible and a lt of that stuff is setting specific. So it needs a good combing through just yet but the folder I lug it around in makes it a bit easier for me when I'm running Demo's to access info I need, without having to page through 30 separate books.

~Rex

Actually, I'm not sure you can have ANY setting stuff in it, unless it is generic.

The Imperium is generic. The Third Imperium is not and is IP.

I think the Black Books have done a good job of keeping those separate. Scouts, for example has a Chapter about the IISS, but it is a separate chapter, not blended in with the rest of the Scout book info.

(although Scouts is not in the SRD, so maybe that was a bad example...)

Nah that's actually a good example because it points out separation of setting and mechanic.
