Two Questions about shuttles (ACTA:SF)

Mongoose
Are they not armed with Phaser 3's as they are in SFB? Am I just missing the part where they are?

The other question isn't so much about shuttlecraft as it's about the future of more ships coming out....like say space control ships????

I'm assuming its a safe bet that we're going to see fighters in an expansion sometime....along with carriers?

RIght Mr shuttle pilot.

You have here on mark 14 starfleet standard shuttle craft, sublight, for the use of. 1.2 million credits fully fitted out.

Cost of fitting a defensive phaser and targeting array 1.7 million credits
Cost of fitting a Drone rack for use as a launcher 470 thousand credits
Cost of fitting an ECM suite for use as a Wild Weasel 4.2million credits.

Life span of shuttle in range of an enemy. 2.4 seconds

Look at it this way, your job is to fly people and cargo from point A to point B. You will die so fast in combat no one will even notice and by not fitting all those expensive gadgets we can buy 6 shuttles for the price of one.

Nothing personal

I think this is one of those - "everything is the same in the SFU" except when it isn't :P

As Greg says shuttles do have phasers in SFB but apparenelty not in FC - there was an issue that arose in playtesting (its been talked about on several forums) about people using the shuttle as a anti-drone/ plasma defence platform - esp against Romulans.

This meant slow moving ships with protective screens of shuttles which was decided was not SFU - quickest fix was to drop the phasers on the shuttle.

Fighters - it seems a massively divisive thing between players in the SFU so don;t know which way they will go.....

Actually, Steve Cole has stated that putting phasers on the shuttles in SFB was a mistake. One that he corrected with Fed Comm.

That's interesting to hear. I always thought it felt un-StarTreky to have a bunch of shuttles flying round in the midst of a battle, too.

Apparently in one of the novels they gave the shuttle a phaser. That's where it originally came from. I don't think SVC had any idea what a can of worms it would open up.
