Travellers Needed! High Guard Updates

There's no exact amount of time for a maintenance cycle, outside of game mechanics, just that it's a good idea that within a certain time period and/or usage, it should be carried out.

Overclocking the manoeuvre drive is an instance where this is triggered, though, outside of penalizing the next attempt, has no other game effect.

The rules are as written, but for any number of reasons, whether manufacture quality, lack of use, or stressing the components, it can and should vary.

As a GM, you can do as you like. I don’t even disagree with anything you said. This isn’t about maintenance; it’s about expenses.

Since expenses are based on 4-week maintenance periods—except the mortgage—I’ll stand by my request to have it moved to the same measure as the rest of the expenses for consistency, particularly since what a month is isn’t spelled out in the rules.

There might not really be a difference between months and maintenance periods as I found this in the Core Rules.

A Study Period is equal to eight weeks (or two months) of study and practice.

I think the number of months in a year is still vague, but a week is 168 hours. There is a quote in the core rules that nails it down pretty closely.

The TL10 module is pressurised and includes life-support for six occupants for one week (1,000 person/hours).

That’s 166.667 hours per week, so close enough to nail down a 168 hour week.

On another note, this entire suggestion is moot. Mortgages are paid in maintenance periods, not months, so I misremembered anyway. ;)

The implication is that there are are 12 maintenance periods in a year (which makes for a really short year), but that isn’t spelled out, I don’t think. Or there are 13 and the players get a break on the mortgage on the 13th maintenance period.

I have always ran it as 13 months (28 days each), but 12 ship payments with the 13th month free from payments. We have been toying with 13 cheaper payments but haven't moved that way yet.

Should Quad Turrets now be in the main sections of HG rather than the exotic technology section?

- JTAS volume 8 provides 3i background for quad turrets involving GeDeCo.
- Spinward Extents introduces quad turrets on 2e ships in that region.

Not a major concern as this can be handled table by table. Maybe those references still make these features exotic across the broader empire, but perhaps not so rare behind the claw?

Maybe a little too much, but the feedback is appreciated. :)

It's a minor update, so we won't be making wholesale changes to the book. Just fixing things that are confusing and minor additions where warranted.
Thanks for asking for input for the HG update. Seriously, this is greatly appreciate on my part even if you end up ignoring most of these comments. Cheers :)
