Travellers Needed! Central Supply Catalogue Updates

Hab Modules and Tents are found in the core book but not the CSC, despite the CSC having options for them. It may be handy to have them in there to refer to.

The section on Black Market and the listing of various categories of weapons restriction is somewhat different than Traveller Companion's publication of similar restriction categories. It might be useful to align these.

The Traveller Companion doesn't have "prohibited items" section, but does have spaceship weapons included in the categories.

The spaceship weapons categories of legality would be improved by also listing the category of weapon platform: turret, barbette, bay, spinal.

That's the kind of thing that gets kind of iffy for me. Because that's very setting dependent and, theoretically, the Central Supply Catalogue is core rules. By default, Traveller has laser, sandcaster, and non nuclear missiles in turrets as what is legal for civilians. But the implications of the comments around the PD Lasers in that sector book is that the smaller states out there are much more restrictive, because their militaries are less able to laugh of full lasers and missiles.

And what needs to be on the black market is going to be different from world to world. So I would rather it be a coherent set of rules for how to set up and run black markets, with an "example" rather than anything that smacks of "rules" about what things are what legality.

But the the whole "properly separate Traveller Core Rules from Charted Space" is my particular windmill to tilt at. heh.

I understand what your saying in regards to making a distinction between the 3i/Charted Space setting and others, and I agree that clarity for when rules are presented vs campaign content is desirable.

In this case, the categories are already published but inconsistent across publications.
  1. The base recommendation is to clarify the categories that have already been published.
  2. I also suggest that weapon platform be included, as we do see Barbettes and Bays on ships that are not strictly military. These examples on the surface seem to break the guidance published in HG.
  3. It's fair to further note that these categories are for 3i in the 1105 period if that is what is intended.

I agree that they should be separated, but Mongoose trashes this in the CRB in the Law Level section. This means that no matter what universe you are in, all law level 3 worlds ban laser weapons even if they have never heard of laser weapons or their universe never invented them. They are still illegal. Mongoose does an extremely poor job of separating the system of Traveller from the many settings of Traveller.

Saw the note about battle dress might I suggest bringing the power armour chapter into line with how battle dress and primitive power armour works as of the latest Jtas release, as in giving them slots primarily. Also please drop the exoskeleton in said chapter or re-write it, as it currently does not follow the norms that the other sets of armour in the chapter use and or perhaps introduce a new power armour at TL 12 so that we recive a more "smooth" progression of said power armours.
