Two pieces of advice I can give to all prospective writers, after seeing a few of these now...
1. Do not use contractions (don't, won't, can't), unless it is in dialogue - someone actually speaking. It looks bad in text and, frankly, is counterproductive if you are to be paid per word!
2. Every time you use the word 'that,' consider it. Look at the word, and read the entire sentence out loud. Nine times out of ten, you will find the word 'that' is redundant. Get rid of it.

Rule #2 also applies to "in order to", just say "to". This was a pet peeve of a teacher for a Creative Writing course I took several years ago and now is mine, too.
And now I have another word to look at when I write. I already knew about #1.
