Mongoose
So will T5 (if issued) make MG Traveller out of date

BUT, the general answer has been NO, it will compliment and expand on MGT.
T5 will have a different combat system, a different just about everything, but is somehow going to mesh with MGT (and previously CT and T4) to expand and make it more detailed (tables for everything so I hear).
I don't think it will have the ability to replace MGT, honestly, from the old play test files that I saw (they were several years old mind you). T5 is a game of 'Roll dice, look it up on a table, go to another table, roll more dice and eventually determine there are 4 legs on the dog'. That is my interpretation anyway.
I think T5 will have a limited appeal in the overall market and that MGT will become the default future of Traveller. This is of course, just My (semi) Humble Opinion

And, as EDG and RTT have implied, parts of T5 support MGT, rather than undermine it.
Starships can be imported from T5. Characters can, too, with a relatively painless skill level tweak (I think). Weapons as well, although some work is required to convert into the MGT damage mechanic (maybe not a lot, though?).
