Traveller Starter Set?

It is almost complete - we are putting the final touches to the (three) books contained in the box, and work has started on the other gubbins the box will contain. Stand by for previews!

How much of this box set do you think will be useful to someone who owns all the other books and supplements? I do not mind that there will obviously be some overlap in the rule portions, but I am keenly interested in campaign material, or maybe maps, or other goodies beyond a condensed set of rules n the main books.

I suppose this information will be in the previews you have asked us to stand by for!

Thanks!

A complete campaign is included.

If you have the existing Core Rulebook then, being honest, it is not an essential purchase. You already have all the rules included in the box set.

On the other hand, there are some new bits and pieces.

1. A complete campaign.
2. In a region of the galaxy that Traveller has not yet touched (same universe as the Third Imperium, but far, far away...).
3. A brand new canon alien race, straight from the mind of Mr Marc Miller.
4. A HUGE blank sector map (poster sized, bigger than our map packs of the past!) for you to start building your own universe (or explore the new region we have unveiled).
5. The ability to give your players the rulebooks from the starter set (split into two volumes, Characters and Combat, and Worlds and Spacecraft), while you keep hold of your posh hardback.

Pretty sure it will be set at a certain 'price point' and then they will see how much they can cram into that financial constraint. As it is a starter set I'm sure it won't be to heavy a hit, that saying most basic game sets roll in about the 50 squid mark these days :?

You guys don;t need my input on this, but I think that starter kits have to have simplified rule variants, so that new players can instantly jump into play.

The starting adventure should be intriguing enough to get them revved up, and introduce the players to the more iconic characteristics of that universe. It should also never be mentioned again in the rest of the publications, except maybe ten years later, as a special ten year anniversary edition, that's far more filled out and appeal to the player's nostalgia, in order to get them to buy it.

Three booklets is a nice traditional touch.

Indeed - 80% chance you will see the starter set on Drivethru by the end of this week. If not, most certainly next week!

We are just putting the final touches on the poster maps, and then we will be good to go!

Flinking blip! Shall keep an eye out. Any news on the hard copy?

That will be 2-3 months behind the PDF, as is the way of things. But you should have it for some good Summer gaming!

Hmmmmmm. Okay, that's intriguing! I guess I only have to wait a day or two to find out for myself, but does this sector appear on the "Map of Known Space"? I.e., the one depicted on travellermap.com?
