Traveller Robots - Terminal Confusion!

I've had the Robots rulebook for a while now, planning to use it for Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog adventures I have planned... but...

I simply can't figure out how to use the construction process.

If I had an example of designing a robot to follow, then I'd have no problem. Does the 'weight' of a given chassis the total amount of equipment that can be installed, for instance? The book doesn't give examples, so I'm lost!

If anyone can give me a sample robot and a 'how-to', I would be very grateful - otherwise, my Robots book is just going to go on gathering dust... :roll:

I'll have look at the book as I was planning on creating a robot character for a traveller campaign.

Sorry been a bit busy so not had time to do so yet. Will post as soon as I get a chance to run through the book.

As far as I can tell, No. The chassis mass(weight in 1G) is how much Mass it has. Remember, Mass=Weight only in 1G environments. If local gravity is higher or lower, then of course your "weight" isn't equal to it's Mass. What determines how much equipment can be installed is the number of Slots the equipment takes up. The number of Slots available is the how many Slots the chassis has.

I've been reading through it in prep for my own upcoming game so here's a very basic Robot that I've been working on as I've been teaching myself the system. Could someone double check me?

This is going to be a no frills, basic Humanoid robot.

Frame:
Size 3 Tall Frame(basic Humanoid)
This frame has 10 Slots for add-on equipment
Armour=3
Hull=3
Structure=2
Mass=120
Cost=5000

I would like my robot to have a Head, so I'll add a Unit;
Size 1 Unit(Head)
Slots 2 (Head has 2 Slots for add-on equipment)
Hull= +1 (Hull total is now 4)
Structure= +1 (Structure total is now 3)
Cost= 100

Arms(going to had 2 arms to go for the Humanoid look)
Size 3(each arm is Size 3 so my robot doesn't look weird)
Slots 4(each arm has 4 slots for add on equipment)
Str=12
Dex=10
Slam Damage for each arm=2d6
Mass=2(Mass for 2 arms=4)
Cost=2000 each(total for 2 arms=4000)

Legs(going with plain regular legs)
Leg, erect
Size 3
Slots 4(each Leg has 4 slots for add-on equipment)
Lift 100 kg(2 legs enable robot to lift 200 kg)
Speed=60 kph
Mass=15* (Robot's total mass for legs=30 however the * points to a note saying that you don't add that Mass to how much the Transport system carries, i.e. doesn't go against the Lift capacity of the legs)

Communication Devices:(Robot has to be able to interact at some level)
Input:
Audio Sensor
Mass= 0.5
1 Slot(this takes up one Slot, put this in the Chassis(body)
Cost=100

Optics, Basic
Mass=0.5
1 Slot(takes up 1 Slot, put this in the Head)
Cost=100

Output:
Vocoder, Basic
Mass= 0.5
Slot=1 (Takes up 1 slot, will put this in the Head)
Cost= 500

Computer:
CPU:
Parallel
Slots=0.5
CPU Power=3GHz
Mass=1
Cost=1000

Memory:
1 TL10
1000GB(1TB)
DTR=500MPS
Seek Time=3
Cost=700

Computer Option
Inhibitor
Cost=100

Software:
CA(Command Algorithm) Class 2
Cost=2000

This is a very basic robot with lots of expansion possibilities. Stats so far are

Str: 12
Dex: 10
Hull: 4
Structure: 3
Int: 2
Edu: 0

Mass:157
Mass that Legs have to carry: 127
Total Lift Capacity:200
Lift Capacity after subtracting Robots Mass: 73(What Robot can carry)
Armour:3

Gadgets/Devices
Head:
Optics, Basic
Vocoder
Open Slots(Head): 0

Chassis(Body):
Audio Sensor
Computer: Parallel; 3GHz
Memory: 1TB
CA2
Open Slots(Chassis/Body): 8.4

Right Arm:
Open Slots: 4

Left Arm:
Open Slots: 4

Right Leg
Open Slots: 4

Left Leg:
Open Slots: 4

Cost: 14,600

Plenty of open Slots and Lift Capacity to add more Gadgets and/or Programs. Stuff you add takes up Slots, Adds Costs and Adds Mass(Subtract added Mass from what the Robot can Lift). Depending on what you add on to it, this could be a fairly versatile robot.
