Traveller Release Schedule 2026

The best depictions of Aslan in my opinion are the originals as a baseline:
  • CT / William H. Keith artwork
  • DGP Artwork
  • Secondarily, the GT artwork, which is derived from the above two
In the above cases, the Artwork is lion-like (i.e. vaguely similar to Lions, enough to make the connection), but clearly not like a Lion when one looks closer and compares to actual lions.

But yes, the SIZE ISSUE ABSOULTELY needs to be fixed.
As Vormaerin said: Average Human Male height comes to the shoulder-height of the average Aslan Male.
I 100% agree on the size.
The GT artwork is my least favorite. I actually prefer the Mongoose mustachioed look with CT and WHK's art my second preference. Just quit making them 9 feet tall when they should be maybe 7 for a somewhat typical male.

Aslan size will be addressed in The Aslan Hierate. I haven't seen any art for the book yet, but I am hoping there will be room for a "line up" illustration showing humans and Aslan side-by-side, much like in MgT1 Aslan.

Personally I don't get too wound up about giant Aslan because -- while the jumbo proportions don't reflect "reality" -- they do accurately reflect depictions of Aslan in Solomani literature and holovids.

Like Vargr, there could be subspecies.

You will see a lot of this potential coming up - people have already been talking about combining Pioneer with Dark Conspiracy...
I think 2300 would be a better fit for combining with Dark Conspiracy, Pioneer is a little mundane and DC used to have a bit of a cyberpunk aspect something that Pioneer doesn't really support.

Not that big a deal, they're all Traveller for the most part, except that 5E thing.

We must think alike - I was just thinking the same thing the other day about this topic.

Solomani who don't live on or near the Spinward border have this - image - from fanciful descriptions and tall tales (no pun intended); and then they get to actually travel and see one and they are - underwhelmed.

Aslan size will be addressed in The Aslan Hierate.

Sounds like the threat of another Cultural Purge . . . :p

A bit depends on the size of the humans in question, really. The stated average height for humans is 1.8m; for Aslan it's 2.0m, a 20cm difference in average height. In old measure, that's an 8" height difference... I think an ENTIRE PLANET of that is going to be a little intimidating, even for a tall Human (who would themselves be quite unused to suddenly being of average-to-short height... unless their own planet was home to unusually tall people).

And... I've bought this up before, but if the average Aslan height is 2.0m AND Aslan males average taller than females AND the gender ratio is three girls for every boy (all facts according to every source), the average height of an Aslan male might be significantly more than the average height of a female. If the average female height were 1.99m, the average male height would be 2.03m.

(Now, it's possible that the variation is lower, but the art generally supports a height difference of 4cm between males and females)

And the human height is the average for males and females. The difference at the moment is 171 for male and 160 for female. A difference of 11.

In the 57th century Imperium the human average is 180... if we assume the same ration for male and female that makes average human male height 192.

The size comparison diagrams in CT and T5 are what I go by,

So, a thought about the 'Update" books.

The naming is getting a little confusing. You need to use the 2022 Update Core Book, along with the 2023 Update Central Supply Catalog, 2022 Update High Guard, and the 2026 Update Vehicles Book.

For someone new to the game, staring at a store shelf, I could see them asking the store owner if there is a 2026 Update Core Rulebook to go with the 2026 Update Vehicles book.

I wonder if calling all these books 2.1 or 2E revised would have caused less confusion. If we follow the current naming standard and gap, then the next Core Rulebook would be the Core Rulebook 2028 update. Well, the Core Rulebook 2028 is way closer in time to the 2026 Vehicles guide than the 2022 Core Rulebook.

If the overall plan is not to release a year-dated core rulebook, but instead to release a 3E version of Traveller, then this is a moot point.

I thought I would have mentioned it under Out of the Closet, but smallarms bear a very Terran stamp, a conclusion I came to when I was trying to figure out exactly why the Solomani military use ceremonial revolver pistols, rather than going the semi automatic route.

It couldn't be just for cultural or historic reasons, assuming that the Wild West frontier motifs were transferred to their conquest of the Final Frontier.

Which made me wonder, exactly what kind of smallarms that the Vilani were using, and what form of development had they undertook?

Besides, that the Terrans likely ripped off the advanced combat rifle from them, since you couldn't reverse engineer it in Field Catalogue.
