Traveller Referees screen.

So say we all.

We could make our own but a proper one would be much prettier and jolly useful. The big question is about the outside, should it be blank with just the red bar and logo or should it have useful things for the players? Personally I would go for the former - if the GM wants the players to have something he will give it to them and while something like a map of the Imperium or the Marches would be nice it would be too small to be useful and more importantly it would detract from the generic usefulness of the screen, trying too firmly to the OTU.

Or a PDF format one that can be downloaded from Drivethru or whoever and used in conjunction with a certain customisable ref's screen product

blank or not would depend on how much info was on it
figure on 3 panels that could be up to 6 pages of tables minium
I can see there being at least 8 pages worth if you add in Mercenary and High Gaurd

Oh yes please.

* No stats on player side, preferably a nice picture like the Spinward marches one, or if you really want it to be generic all black with traveller logo, or just simple picture of space. The key factor is *coolness* on the player side. The ideal is to give the feeling of the setting (Spinward Marches cover ilustration good for that, but it would be nice to have another of the same quality) No commercial logos or other text, even small text could harm players attention (appart from maybe the Traveller logo, alone). Choose one solution, not a combination (if picture, only picture, one big one, no Traveller logo, unlike Spinward marches cover).

* On GM side no character generation stuff. Basic general rules (modififier for stat values), some basic combat rules and such. A UWP decoder. Oh and really usefull: a reference to pages on specific books for every element (that really helps).

* Screen must be sturdy, not too floppy, ie made of some decent stuff, and have a nice finish.

* On a maybe more personnal note, I feel Traveller should have a low screen, not a high (usual size), as the open ended nature of the setting involves more improvising and less maps and such, so not that much to hide from players really. That does not take away from the inherent usefullness of a well made screen though. So 3 pages lying on their longer side seems good. If pages vertical, 4 pages is better than 3.

* Some good campaign given with the screen, that is allways a must.

* Please not PDF for the basic product (some pdf alternative tables could be usefull, but better to not count on them), at least as far as I am concerned.

It doesn´t seem to be likely for 2009.

This is an exceptionally good idea, even trumping (to me) my pet project of a Spinward Marches poster map. A GM screen should be one of the first items available for ANY system; very odd there's none on the radar.

Hey I'm all for a screen!!!! Maybe even with a mini-module (showing my age here). :D But I'll just take the damn screen by itself.

I'd also like to raise a cry for a GM screen. (print...not PDF please.)
Even if it never happens it's gonna be one heck of a good year for Traveller fans! Check out that list of goodies!

Maybe this is a completely heretical thing to say...but I think I would rather have a nominally FREE booklet (say 50p-1UKP) of Tables & Charts. These would have all the Core charts ie combat values for combat of different sorts, the Task Process (necessary rolls results from success & failure), patron seeds, cargo tables and that is all. However, I would have this an evolutionary document. The more that Mongoose adds in terms of combat the charts would be changed. This would be a non-renewable download...ie 1 download only and you would pay for updates hence the low, low price. These sheets would then go into a customizable screen that Mongoose could also sell. I favour multiple A4 panels (at least 10).

Personally, I'd prefer a hardcopy.

Best do both ways, though, for those who do and those who don't.

I would agree with this too, so long as it's available in the Americas as well.

A Traveller GM Screen would be great.
Two comments...

Landscape format please. (I like it better, what else can I say.)

GM 'in-play' stuff only, no char gen or other junk done between sessions please. (That also means no stuff that's only useful for the players.)
