Traveller Open Day at Mongoose HQ, Swindon

This looks exciting and although I was scheduled to take the children to the theatre, I can off-load that job to my parents and attend! Yay!

Looks like a mix of 3rd Imperium Traveller plus the new settings using the Traveller rules set.

Will it be first-come-first-served?

Do you expect only one session to be played for each of the scenarios?

Will there be any discount at the Mongoos store? :-)

I visited Mongoose HQ recently and I can't say their directions were all that clear. Thus, here are my own for those who have not been before and are arriving by car. Swindon is world renowned for...its roundabouts, so these are the most distinctive landmarks to navigate by.

From M4 exit at Exit 16

Follow the A3102 dual carriageway (The "Great Western Way")

Roundabout 1 - straight ahead
You'll now pass through a wooded stretch of road

Roundabout 2 - straight ahead
There's a car dealership on Roundabout 2 on your right.
The road now becomes the B4006 while the A3102 departs to the right at Roundabout 2. However, it's still called the "Great Western Way"

Roundabout 3 - straight ahead
A slightly complicated roundabout as there is a filter road to the left into an industrial park

Roundabout 4 - straight ahead
This is a relatively small roundabout

Roundabout 5 - straight ahead
You will see another roundabout immediately in front of you and an elevated railway line to your left with the left exit going under it via a tunnel

Roundabout 6 - turn LEFT
You will go under the railway line via a tunnel and almost immediately encounter yet another roundabaout
You are now on the B4289

Roundabout 6 - veer RIGHT

Roundabout 7 - straight ahead

Roundabout 8 - straight ahead
Again, you'll see another larger roundabout immediately ahead of you

Roundabout 9 - straight ahead
This is a slight leftward veer

Roundabout 10 - turn LEFT up the hill
You will notice a large tunnel on the right under the railway line

As you go straight ahead on the high street you'll be on Cricklade road

On your RIGHT you'll notice shops, a block of flats, a three or four story newly built building and then a furniture shop (about 1980's build).

Down the side of the furniture shop is a pedestrian way. You want to get there as the entrance to Mongoose is there (it's not on to the street and can not really be see from the street).

From there follow the demonic tapping of keyboards, hum of computers and evil laughs.

Don't park in the big car park at the rear of Mongoose Towers - it belongs to the flats which are behind the car park and you might get clamped (there are signs!). Parking is limited in that area, so maybe someone who is familiar with car parking arrangements in Swindon can direct us to a PnD nearby?

Mongoose Tower's main door is down the little alleyway (as mentioned by Stainless) that leads between the main road at the front of the building and the small road at the rear (which has the car park for the flats on its left).

Across the main road there are a couple of chip shops and I think there's a supermarket somewhere along the far side of the main road as well.

And remember: for those Hivorz that enjoy a smoke, Mongoose Towers is a Nos Mo King building - you must go outside to have a fag.

An Offer
I will be going from MK to Northampton to collect my long-time Traveller buddy, then from there to Swindon.

If anyone in the MK, Towcester or Northampton areas wants to go, I'm happy to give a lift there and back. I can take 2 other people (in addition to myself and my Trav-mate) *but*.....
  • I smoke while I drive (but I will be considerate i.e. I won't smoke 40 on the way there and 40 on the way back);
  • You'll have to pay a nominal petrol fee;
  • You'll have to listen to Sat Nav Sally all the way there and back;
  • You have to put up with my tastes in music (Behind The Wheel by Depeche Mode for the motorways ;));
  • The first person to ask "are we there yet?" gets booted out the airlock at high speed.
If anyone wants (or is brave or stoopid enough! :lol: ) to take up the offer, PM me here, on SFRPG or the Spica Publishing boards.

I can't make it, I'm at a wedding in Glasgow, and since Ms Christian isn't there this time, and even if she was I can NOT miss another friend's wedding to go to Mongoose :lol:

Mongoose Map and directions are here:

Looking at Map 2, there is a car park you can access off Chapel Street that is free all weekend IIRC, even better than a PnD eh Grufty?

(Secretly hoping that the Open Day gets delayed by 1 week)

Yup!!

My understanding, as I am running 2 of the scenarios (Masks and Strontium Dogs) is that each one will run once though the skirmish games may have multiple sessions.

I have never attended an Open Day before so not sure how the player signup system is done.

Store Discounts are a matter for the management :)

I thought you might be running masks Rich

hope you have a good day, it sounds like fun
but I cant afford to go unfortunately :cry:

Another very important question that MUST be answered.

Where can one get real coffee (no instant rubish) near Mongoose HQ at 9:30 in the morning or will I have to bring a thermos?

As a frequent kilt wearing Scotsman I can verify that. Even on the coldest days there can be just rewards.

certainly worked for me as a scotsman the last time I wore a kilt :) I went home with this stunning woman from the wedding ... of course i had just gotten married :)

True, I have experience of the effects of kilts, however, since the wedding is in Glasgow, and both families and many of the guests have strong Scottish connections, there will bbe no shortage of men in kilts, the suits will be in the minority :lol:

Following a slight change in travel plans due to relatives and friends not being available I will be driving down from Central Scotland to Swindon for the Open Day on Friday returning Sunday.

Heading down the M6 etc...

Seats available but you would need to arrange your own accomodation.

PM me if interested.
