Traveller Movie

That's just an oddity. It could be that the road and their course were the same.

What is actually WRONG is the slower than snot pulse laser beam. The smoke from the Type S that acts like it is in a slipstream of air. The skidding action of the Type S that stops in an un Newtonian manner. I'm sure that there are other items.

Here is a Traveller movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyeYs8JPqdY

Well, could/should have been. It apparently never got past this stage. :(

First - the animation is over eight years old, it got very good comments when Andrew first did it.

Second, Andrew passed away a couple of years ago and so can not respond to criticism of his work, or update it.

Other than the Spinal weapon battle (AHL I think) movie it is the best one out there of it type.

Art critiques are useful for people other than the creator. Anyone who's thinking about making their own movie, for example.

Andrew helped me back in the day.

That last one looks like serious attempt to get a movie or series about this Traveller made.

Not much action, just a drone flying past a Merc Cruiser.

Why do grav vehicles need roads?
For a world like ours, roads are useful to grav vehicles to:-
* Tell people when & where to expect vehicles to pass through their village.
* On rarely travelled rural roads, give a road that is less likely to be covered in bushes or even the occasional tree. This isn't guaranteed however - "Nature will find a way" (Jurassic Park)

practical reasons for a road..ground cars....heavy trucks, land trains ( a single tractor pulling five or six big trailers.)

Also following a road is a quick way to navigate in unfamiliar terrain. My instructor always kept a road atlas in his airplane. It also ensures that you won't accidentally fly into a rock outcropping, telephone pole or other obstruction while your going full out to get away from the guy behind you.

artistically the stripes on the road are a quick easy way to give a sense of movement. the clip looked like a proof of concept clip. The air rafts were the focus, so I imagine the creator didn't plan on devoting a lot of time to a full blown background.

point of road might be to keep the ground under all those bustling grav vehicles free from pedestrians who might otherwise have garbage and lit cigarette butts dumped on them. Plus as other said, might be a combined ground/grav culture.

It's like saying, "we have planes now, why do we still need ships".

Don't people have GPS systems? In a world where space travel is routine, you think it would cost about nothing to put up a system of GPS satellites. Any colony world that couldn't afford GPS satellites probably couldn't afford to build an extensive system of roads either. Roads are expensive to maintain, and maintaining them creates traffic jams for ground vehicles. flying craft obliterates the need for roads or the expense of maintaining them.

I think flying vehicles would be restricted from flying over cities. You would not get a scene like that in the movie The Fifth Element.

Like this?

Or this?
Would grav vehicles be used in this fashion in a Traveller setting, or do you think the municiple authorities would have something to say about it? I would be afraid to walk on the sidewalk on the ground below.

How about this:

could be a plasma bolt or some not fast as light weapon
also the scout does not stop, but a explosive decompression could act as thrust throwing the scout into a tumble

using a road just to do quick navigation works also
for what it is ,it is a great little movie

Yep, true.

Maybe. I think he did as well as possible without having access to a suitable math engine to tweak the motion.
