Traveller Minatures?

With today's news release from Mongoose I guess we can say clearly no minis are going to come out from Mongoose. If they are going to kill off B5 and SST minis I do not see them starting up a Traveller line of minis.

Oh well. Too bad.

One might not have anything to do with the other. You could even speculate that this means they are freeing up their minis department to make something new that since their old figs aren't making much money

Go read the Blog... they are shutting down their foundry.

When they couldn't make profit with ACTA line(and aparantly calculations with SST added to mix didn't improve situation enough) how would changing to smaller model line help? General expenses to keep product line working would stay roughly same so...Traveller miniatures should outsell ACTA+SST combined big time to be worth it :(

I read it as a shutdown for now but with two items that may combine:
1. They need at least three games to keep the foundry running.
2. They plan to start back up in 2009.

Admittedly, I read it quickly while I was at work, so I'm probably wrong but I figure it means they will need to find a third game and then start back up. They could take this year to sort out whatever their Striker equivalent is going to be or they could be tooling up for something else completely.

Let’s be honest or at least in IMHO, Mongoose miniatures lines have suffered because of a few reasons. The Babylon 5 game suffers from a general level confusion on what ships to use, what rules set is current, how many incarnation of a B5 space combat games have been around two or three, see what I mean? There are AOG B5 products still floating around out there, and that muddies up the water. The B5 RPG miniature line is inconsonant at best. The Minbari are great, the Humans and Centauri are just awful.

SST miniatures suffered from a scale bloat, they are great figures, just too big for most people. I use the skinnies and bugs for my Traveller game, but in general the scale makes them unusable, know there are ways around scale difference for the truly crazed gamer, like me.

Miniatures are an investment, and gamers, look for economy and multi use in addition to a great set of rules. Game Workshop really blew it when they did Lord of the Rings in true 25mm, that would have been great years ago, but today its 28mm that rules conventional marketplace. The only way we will see Traveller RPG miniatures, is as complement to a new “Striker” game. Which, I would play in heartbeat.

15mm is another industry standard. One that hasn't gone away.

It's still the standard for historicals, tho' 1/72 (20mm) is gaining ground.
