Traveller: Editions & Publishers

I was looking over the Traveller wikipedia entry (here) and noticed that Traveller5 came out the same year as Mongoose Traveller.

I'm curious as to who published it and an online source where I might be able to buy a copy of the ruleset.

Far Future Enterprises, owned by Marc Miller, put out T5. You can get the T5 news and CD-ROM pricing by going to http://www.farfuture.net

Personally over the years I've found Marc very pleasant to work with, answering product questions and speedily handling any problems with orders (I ordered the CT CD-ROM, got the T5 CD-ROM, and he told me to keep the T5 while sending out what I ordered... the next day.)

T5 hasn't officially been released yet - a CD-ROM of the playtest version was made available to those who pre-ordered.

I have no idea what its current status is, or if anyone can actually still get a copy of the preorder CD at this stage.

Does anybody know how T5 differs from Mongoose Traveller; are the two rules sets compatible? Does T5 offer anything missing from MgT?

Thanks!

I doubt that you will get an official answer from those who are official involved with T5 but since I do know a little, I can answer in general your question

MGT is base on the orginial (or known as Classic Traveller: CT) with updates, and some new things added.
Several of the new things added are taken direct from or in the same context of T5 material.

T5 is new and different. There are many new things added.
Some are brand new, some are a different way to do the things, and some are clarifications based on all editions of Traveller.

T5 (if Marc goes that way) will be its own game but will allow usage into any other Traveller version.

MGT being based on the core of what Traveller is and is the current and hottest Traveller out there, will of course be able to use T5 material quite easily.

Also, as Mongoose's Traveller License develops, I am sure that you will see new things for Traveller. As a matter of fact if you glance around you will already see some new things out based on MGT core rules.

If this does not answer your question, please ask again, with more details and I will see what I can answer.

Please note: I have been told that
DonM and other T5 officials don't like when I tell things like the above, but don't let that stop you from trying to learn more about it. :)

Well yes, that is very technically correct, but for some about the same as arguing how much methane or something is on one of Jupiter's moons...

Well, obviously we don't want to let anything like facts get in the way of an internet discussion thread.
