Traveller Developer's Pack

Hi guys,

We'll be doing a round up of the SRD in the New Year, adding all sorts of new bits and pieces.
As someone who is in the process of using the SRD to create a product, I was wondering if this work on the SRD has been completed.

I was going through the SRD and I noticed something that needs a bit of clarification. In several places it mentions using the characteristic DM on dice rolls. However, the Characteristic Modifiers Table is not included in the SRD. Was this left out on purpose? I ask because if it is not part of the SRD then that means one needs to recreate the wheel, as it were, in order not to rewrite big sections of the SRD.

Yes, it makes the TMB necessary for play. Just like what WoC did with the experience chart in SRD for 3rd edition.

No you just reference the relevant section in the TMB.

You will also note the point buy system isn't in the SRD either.

That is true, but I never did like the point buy system. Wasn't planning on adding it to this project. Was hoping we could do this as a stand alone project. Have to discuss it with others now.

Would any of the Vehicle books have SRD rules? This will allow those of us who are working on third-party documents to include by-the-book vehicle designs in their products...

Sadly, nothing new has been added to the SRD. Current news that I have is that things will be added eventually. No specific date was given, neither was any information given on what will be added.

Well, the word was that new things would be added "in the new year" - I expect this is slipping because there seems to be a lot of errata in the works, so it wouldn't make sense to update the SRDs until that is sorted out.

Hi guys,

This is still on the cards, just wending our way through a few projects first. Next up is the errata for Mercenary, and then we'll be pretty good to tackle the SRD!

Found some conflicts between Foreven Sector Guide lists and map.

Subsector I
0723 is in the list and old map. 0726 is only in the current map, so has 0723 been destroyed and 0726 born or is this a mistake?

Subsector J
1628 is where it should be but it's hex says 1429 and systems 0926, 0930, 1026, 1124, 1126, 1224, 1325 and 1329 are listed twice (top and bottom 8 ).

Subsector L Reidain
Systems 2628, 2821, 3121, 3124 and 3221 are in the current and old maps but not in the list and systems 2823, 3027, 3028 and 3129 are in the list but not in the map.

Subsector O
1731 wasn't in the list or old map so is this a new world?

Subsector P
3236 wasn't in the list but it was in the old and current maps.

And got couple of questions

The only subsector names shown in this document are from Supplement 3: The Spinward Marches.
I don't own the old one but is subsector P's name Urnian like in current Five Sisters map in The Spinward Marches p109? All subsectors next to the Spinward Marches have static names except P.

Reidain Subsector (L)
Reidain Subsector is a quiet subsector, largely unknown and forgotten in the backwater of a backwater sector. The central worlds of Reidain subsector are said to be lucrative market (DA2:7)
So if Reidain is forgotten backwater subsector why does every system except Hollis 2523, Alenzar 3229 and Raschev 3230 have afflictions with Zhodani?

The SRD updates are obviously waiting for the completion of all the errata which is doing the rounds at the moment - but could we have a teaser of what to expect for the SRDs? :)

I am looking to develop a new setting using the Traveller rules. I am considering seeking permission to have it published, would this be allowed under the the devpack rules, or do I have to seek specific written permission for the new setting?

A new setting is likely to be allowed without any problems but should check the developer pack for specifics.

Provided it doesn't use elements of 3I(ie no Vargrs running around or something) you are good to go with the developers pack.

Thanks.

And no, there are only humans and one other "race."

Thanks for the help. I was looking to make it a setting book with specific changes (things like social standing and some of the mishaps would be changed).

In addition, the terms used for Characteristics (Strength, Dexterity, Endurance, Intelligence, Education and Social Standing) may not be changed. They may be abbreviated to Str, Dex, End, Int, Edu, and Soc respectively.

Work has been started on the famed SRD update, but this has spiralled into a much larger project. We are hacking through it but it may take a little longer than we had hoped.
