Speaking of which - how's that High Guard SRD coming along, Matt?

Being worked on - turning High Guard into an SRD is _much_ more work than Mercenary. . .

Have I missed the Mercenary SRD (and is there a link if I have  ?)

Or is it still to come out?

Phil

Hi guys,

Just to let you know, the Developer's Pack has been updated;

The Mercenary SRD has been tweaked (taking out Aslan. . .).

A draft SRD for High Guard has been added.

The Logo Licence has been slightly revised to include Mercenary and High Guard.

Triple YEAH!!!!!!

Sorry but I am a little confused.

Does the High Gaurd SRD accurately reflect the actual High Gaurd (without pictures or something)?

With the listed changes to fission plants - double size and price - do they still consume fuel in the old way (power plant fuel usage listed by YEAR, and accordingly to assume Jump fuel is 1/26th that of the volume of hydrogen consumed per jump)

The High Guard SRD contains SOME of the information that the book contains, but not all. It contains information on how to make sub 100 tons ships and capital ships. It has the new skills. I didn't check to see how much of the career options in the book made it into the SRD, but I know some did. There are no ships presented in book in the SRD.

As far as fission plants go, I don't know, I didn't check.

No, it is a developer's kit only - you would have a hard time trying to run a game from it!

Thanks. I have the core rules, I was just confused about the SRD Highgaurd status, and the clarification on nuclear plants.

Mind you Please, no more skills Arghh! This way Madness lies (like in TNE & MT)!

cheers and thanks.

Except that skills added to the game at large probably need to be accessible via the SRD.

Oh, and CT was the worst for creeping skill lists, by the way, to the tune of a dozen per book in a few cases. Those lists were largely fixed by the time MT and TNE came along. Your shock and dismay might be from seeing the unified skills list all at once...

Ahh yes Cluster skills cascade skills, etc until it got to the point that everyday activities were a survival challenge for all but the most extra-ordinary charcters! Jut making it to the dresser and having breakfast followed by going to work was a triumph. Oh no a zebra -crossing!

More seriously I would hope that new books add more depth to a character generation, and a little more chrome, but not new skills nor produce characters which were better than that produced by the basic rules. The next step from there is orcs-in-space-and-have-the-latest-add-on-too-which trumps-your-mercenerary-so-buy-now-before-it-is-in-turn-replaced.

The new B5: Traveller book as the OGC/IP info right at the beginning, so RULES and SKILLS added in that book are also now OGC, we don't have to wait for the Developer's Pack to be updated.

There are 4 new skills (well 3 actually, one just got a new name).

I'm not sure I saw any actual new rules, other than the Telepath powers, but that may also be covered in the upcoming Psion book, so I'm not sure about that one.

It was very nice to have that info clearly spelled out when the book came out so OGL developers know what they can and cannot pull from that book.

In Milleau zero fornast was left to the players - will that still be the case or has Foreven taken over that role?
Can you change the makeup of the subsectors with respect to the placement of worlds?, or only the all or part of the UWP?

As far as I know, Foreven's status as a "player preserve" dates back to the Classic era (1105+); I was never aware that Fornast Sector was given the same status when T4 and Millieu 0 were newly released (circa 1997+). If I were to make a guess, that was an Imperium Games/T4 thing and won't be revisited.

Regarding the sector map and changes, here's what EDG quoted in your other thread (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39113) on this issue. Specifically:

7. A sector map and other details on the Foreven Sector have been provided in the Traveller Developer’s Pack. However, you are under no obligation to use them, and are free to create your own.

So- in the "read me" section of the dev pack:

• Publish material for older and out of print versions of Traveller, and release them commercially.
• Publish software based on the current edition of Traveller.
• Publish Original Traveller Universe material beyond the confines of the Fair Use Policy or Foreven Free Sector Logo Licence.

Does item 2 refer to any software at all referencing the current ruleset for traveller, including gameplay aids? If so, does it mean that all these little software project are in violation?

I would guess that technically YES. If you develop software for MGT rules, you are in violation.

BUT, as Matt has stated many times before "PLAY NICE".

If you don't sell it, Matt will probably leave you alone.

Alternately, get a Software license from Mongoose and avoid any "probablies".
