Traveller Core Rule Book 2e Ship-Based Computers

Hello all,

Was there a table or other in Traveller Core Rule Book 2e that created ship-based computers that equate to HG 2e?
Short answer...No.

The computers are not listed in the Core Rule Book because they are listed in the ship building section of High Guard.
The computer programs and how they operate are however listed in the CRB, so you have everything you need to use the Starships listed in the CRB.

Thank you for the reply and confirming that there was not a Ship's Computer table in the core rule book.

Moving on to a related question. On CRB 2e p. 107 is a entry for Computer Variants which has allows a computer to be designed as Prototech or RetroTech.

The Protech variant has an example allowing a TL-10 Computer/2 salvaged from a mysterious alien wreck to be built as a prototype or reversed engineered at TLTL-8.

Would the TCR 2e computer variant rule apply to the HG 2e Ship's Computers?

There really isn't any difference except size and capacity.
They can even run the same programs, so I would say "yes", but it's your world so ultimately you make up the rules.

Note: Unless your characters are 'gearheads' I wouldn't worry about exactly following every rule.

I tend to be most consistent on:
The procedures for character tasks.
Damage the characters do.
Any other rules the characters rely on regularly.

I do this because I want the players to have a sense of consistency (as told by the dice) in their normal activities.

I love a GM who can be consistent and fair. Makes for a much better game IMO.

If I where working on character building I agree with you, however I am more of a gearhead since there is a design system to build a ship for the characters to use or have to figure out how to build or repair a system at a lower tech level.

For example the Traveller party's ship landed on a Tech Level 5 or 6 world when their Standard TL-7 Ship's Computer/5 melted down. As far as I can tell under HG 2e the party would, with my character onboard, probably be unable to repair the computer. Using CRB p. 107 they, if they had the credits anyway, could create an early prototype or a prototype that hopefully gets them back to a Tech Level 7 or better world.

Using CRB p. 107 variant rule for RetroTech I could see the party being inserted onto a lower Tech Level civilization to do covert operations with a computer that is more powerful than what the system appears to be. Again HG 2e does not address this situation.
