Traveller 1.0 To 2.0 Skills Conversion Chart

Solomani666

Mongoose
Here is a chart that I made up to convert Traveller 1.0 character skills to Traveller 2.0 skills.

Since this is for converting characters in play, I have no need to do mustering out tables etc.
I'm not going to take away stuff my PC's already have.

Code:

Good list. I think there needs to be some consideration for a 1st ed character that has ranks in skills that are consolidated in 2nd ed, as I mentioned in the other thread.

Example: 1st ed character has Gun Combat (slug rifle) 2 and Gun Combat (slug pistol) 1.
What does the 2nd ed character get? Gun Combat (slug) for sure, but at what level. 2? 3? Other?

What about the 1st ed character with Computers 0 and Sensors 0. Does the 2nd ed character get Electronics 0? Or maybe electronics (Computers or Sensors) at level 1?

I'm sure there are other cases to consider.

This list simply matches the skills from 1.0 to 2.0
Skill levels remain the same and are sometimes added if two different 1.0 skills match a 2.0 skill.
Computer-0 and Sensors-0 would equate to ELECTRONICS-0 since it covers both at a level 0.
Slug Pistol-1 and Slug Rifle-2 would convert to GUN COMBAT *Slug-3. (So as not to cheat characters of skill points.)
The only exception to this is Battledress which equates to two levels of Vaccsuit.

I could see giving two levels of Vaccsuit for the Battledress.

That goes back to the CT books if I recall where Battledress-1 or Vaccsuit-2 were required to use battledress armor.

Yes, makes sense. I will admit the removal of Battledress from the skill list was one of the few removals I disliked. I argued for it remaining but was outnumbered. :D

I also thought it could be changed to be something like "Powered Suit" and thus could include the small walkers like the Heavy Gear style and the civilian Powered Suits such as a Fire or rescue suit you might see at a space port. I figured they would be different enough in both use and general maintenance that a different skill would be worth it.

Vacc suit seems to mean both operations in zero gee, and operating a powered suit, which seems an activity more vehicular, than extravehicular.

I have come to accept, that for Mongoose, Vacc Suit is a catch all skill that includes anything and everything to do with suits of any kind, powered or not. :D

Dear Solomani 666,

Thanks for the wonderful effort in drawing up the Conversion Chart. But please pardon my ignorance - what program do we use to read the Chart ?

Many thanks !
