Has any one else noticed in main core book of RunequestII is 30 kilometers over a 10 hour period walking . but after doing some checking on average human walking distance i came up with more like 60km over 10 hours . what do you guys do your selfs
and has any one else checked the other distances it gives and compared those to real life travel

I imagine that it's assumed that you are doing more than walking from point A to point B during that time. Characters would realistically stop to eat, pop a squat, or just sit down for a bit. A walk for a few hours os pleasant, but A 10 hour car trip is tiring, think of how beat you would be after a 10 hour walk! You won't be fresh as a daisy and moving at optimum speed at hour 7.

Yes, you're assuming a constant walking speed of 5+km per hour. That might be sustainable on perfectly flat terrain, for a very fit man not carrying some form of load, but in most circumstances, and with varying terrain, you're not going to manage it.

Yep. I've done my fair share of walking with the scouts and in the army. 30 Kk for 10th hours is pretty realistic for a group also stopping for varying reasons during the day.

You can force march quicker, eating on the go and sleeping in hastily erected bivuaks. But this is extremely tiring, impossible without discipline and will wreak havoc with morale and on-arrival ability.

Last month I did 15km in part of a morning with weapon and kit weighing in at around 55lbs.
However this march rate will produce a kind of 'tunnel vision' in that the slowest are hardpressed to keep up and merely concentrate on the road and the backs of their fellows. More stops and a slower actual pace per minute will give better opportunities to take in surroundings etc. Tasks like eating or talking can become difficult on the move..typically its easier to take turns singing the verses of a song.
Temperature, humidity, ground type all affect the ease of movement as well.
