Trade, am I missing something?

Now that my questions regarding the trade/passenger tables are cleared up I'm left wondering if I'm missing something or doing something wrong.

For example, take Antares and it's nearest neighbor (well, attractive neighbor, anyway), Nashigakhe. Antares (according to it's UWP A762ADA-D and the trade codes table pg 181) should have the travel codes of: Fl Hi Ht Wa. Nashigakhe (B433231-D) should be: Lo NI Po Ht.

Local map for Antares

Freight traffic from Antares to Nashigakhe is non-existent?
Antares is -3 for being Fl, +2 for Hi, and -3 for Wa. Modifier for outgoing freight: -4. Nashigakhe adds 2 for it's population, then +1 for NI and -3 for Po. Net modifier = +0. So the trade volume from Antares to Nashigakhe is null. This is odd, because supposedly these two worlds are on a main trade route. In reverse, the traffic is -1. Still no freight.

Passenger traffic seems normal, with a passenger traffic volume of 4 from Antares to Nashigakhe, and 10 going from Nashigakhe to Antares.

What am I doing wrong?

Only a guess...

...but the same question comes up in most Traveller rules.

Presuming you're doing all the rolls/math correctly the short answer is probably that you're trying to apply* the rules for what trade is available to a single small tramp free-trader with no connections, no office on either world, and limited confidence and name recognition, to cover everything up to and including a mega-corp with several large ships, long standing ties and connections, a huge office managing deals on each world, and high confidence and name recognition.

* meaning, to infer that because the free-trader can't get any freight that there isn't any

:) I'm not at all sure I'm being clear. Or that I'm correct. But I doubt you're doing anything wrong and it's just that the results don't fit your interpretation. If that makes any more sense?

Thats pretty much how I read it Far-trader.

The 0 doesnt mean there isnt any trade, but that its all dealt with by the corporation boys, not the free-traders.

Also a trade route link may extend either end of that pair of planets - so other planets may be offering goods to ship to or from either of that pair, but you need bigger jump engines to manage the job in one

How do you get the Fluid(Fl) and Water world(Wa) trade codes for Antares?

It would require an atmosphere type A+, ie exotic, corrosive etc. and Hydrographics code A, ie no land mass.

You've quoted Antares having atmos type 6, which is 'standard', and Hyd 2 which is 'a few small seas'.

I think maybe Antares should have trade codes of High Pop(Hi) and High Tech(Ht).

Also you've quoted Nashigakhe as being Lo, Ni, Po, Ht. Non-Industrial requires a pop code of 4-6. Nashigakhe only has pop 2 according to your UWP. So it should have a trade code of Po, Lo, Ht.

Other than that you've followed the system for working out the Freight Traffic Value as I would.

Antares to Nashegakhe FTV=1
Nashegakhe to Antares FTV=2

......I think :?
Hope this helps.

....
Yeah, no idea where I got the type A atmos, but I was sure that I had seen it. Very odd. My mistake :P
Ditto for the population. Wow. Apparently I was very, very tired when I made that post :P

Apologies.
