TOS Enterprise colour scheme

Thought it might be of use to those of us who have been struggling to match the origional shade of grey that was used on the Big E in the series. Not taking anything away form the lovely figures using other shades.

After painting my Federation ships, I found out that the original Enterprise was painted a concrete color. The closest I've seen to it is Tamiya's JN Gray mixed with Flat White, at a ratio of 5:1 gray to white. It matches the swatches in the article you posted quite well. If I had not already decal-ed my ships, I would repaint them. Last weekend I built a 1/1000 scale Enterprise model painted with the concrete color; I will post a picture when I get home from work, if it is OK with Mongoose.

I used Citadel's Celestra Grey. It worked out quite well if I do say so myself. Of course I'm partially colour blind so a lot of what I paint is grey.

Vallejo's silver gray is another good choice as a 'concrete' looking gray that is just a notch past off white.
