You fire torpedoes when attacking but resolve them later, as such since not every torpedo is the same you end up needing to note who fired what.
Thinking, have a counter for each AD, not each attack. The counter can then have a number for the number of DD a hit will cause. No longer matters who fires what, the counter tells you what you need to know.
Thinking some 20mm square markers with the DD noted by a number of 'wake trails' painted on.
