Thread search help (space combat)

Hey,
I was wondering if anybody can help out a poor fool ?

A fair few months back, maybe longer, I remember seeing a forum thread about space combat, specifically a system and ideas to expand on the roles of the various ship positions in a ship battle... e.g. stuff like the engineer getting a roll to "boost the power" and sort of chain task a mod onto the pilot's roll or give an extra thrust point and so on. The sort of thing to help ensure that all the players in the group have something useful to do during space battles/don't feel left out/etc. I'm not so worried about the tactical simulation end of things, more in ensuring all the players at the table feel engaged.

So I went and did some forum searching, and while I turned up plenty of interesting threads about missiles, space combat in general etc, some of which I may also integrate but I couldn't for the life of me find the thread I was after.

Few people role-play such scenes out, unfortunately. The default setting is to place the characters on a ship that is fighting in a tactical space wargame and then complain when their ship can't kill anything, or their ship gets killed too easy by the other ships.

My players role-play it out. Their characters are always doing something onboard their ship. No one is left out. Something is always going on during a battle. The players have great actions they think up on the spot, because we're playing in real-time. No combat rounds. No turn-based moves, etc. We do the same for any combat. They are just skill rolls, like any other skill check. The beauty of Mongoose Traveller role-played.
 
With the way Traveller chargen works, most of the time everyone has a skill or two useful during ship combat even if minimal. The players who don't have positions on the bridge, turrets or in engineering can still serve in Damage Control or Medic in a pinch. If need be in emergencies (no gunner), get in that turret and start shooting!
