The smaller navies of WWII - resources?

After a small discussion with Matt about the smaller navies of WWII and whether they will be in the VaS supplement it left me thinking of the possibly of statting some of them up.

Contenders:

Poland
Greece
Dutch
Portugese
Spanish (including civil war)
Brazilian
Argentinean
Chilean

There is a powerful argument for an alternate history where Argentina, a facist state (remember Evita with Madonna, thats the unacceptable face of facism) invades Brazil, a dictatorship that has sided with the allies.

At the moment I'm looking for online resources for them, and coming up empty.

And yes, I had considered the Finnish navy, but no I don't think they would be a good idea.

With regards to the Argentina senario you would have to asume that Peron takes office earlier than he did since although the previous governement was a military Government since '43 of whcih Peron was actually part of he did not have enough power yet.

Of course he Peron was himself and admirer of the facist regimes in Europe so had he taken office earlier it wouldn't be difficult to assume he could have join the Axis.

As mentioned in the previous post DM has come up with some of those fleet lists in particular Argentina, and PanzerS. has the Moreno battleships while for the cruisers you might have to do some conversions on maybe Italian cruisers.

Is that a new edition? I'm sure mine has a different cover (although I wouldn't swear to it, I never look at the cover!)

dont forget Canada they had a small WW2 fleet

IIRC Canada's navy (in terms of numbers) was something like the third biggest in the world at the end of WW2, so it was hardly a "small fleet"

Personally I think Alternate History is the way to go. We already have Z-plan, etc.

The only thing really holding it back is that VaS doesn't really have 'backstory' or fluff to it.Most people who pick it up will assume its a game based loosely off real history and some (very) near real history. If you start rewriting history in the new supplement, it may lead to some confusion among the players, create the need for a new format, and you may invalidate some entries in the core book. For example, Argentina going black w/ Brazil falling suit may have forced the United States to abandon the Washington Naval Treaty and build larger ships(thus replacing some current designs with new ones, making the old ones entirely obsolete and leaving them with no purpose or reality in the new game-verse).

I think that real events form great backstories, better than fiction anyway. Also whilst yes it is fun to occasionally try out some of the more hypothetical ships, I prefer historically accurate fleets (or as near as you can get in VAS) rather than turning up looking at my opponants fleet and thinking and theres the Montana again!
