I finally broke and picked up WR main book today, mind you it was a 2nd hand copy for only £5 so you can't blame me much.

Now I need to resiost the call to buy the 4E core books.

I prefer the third edition more as I am an old time AD&D GM. I have to say that the core books are worth getting. WotC tries real hard to make their books beautiful. I like to read about many different game systems so that I can enhance whatever one I run. There are two major advancements to DnD in fourth edition, minions and skill challenges. It is interesting to see what they did with the game. I am not one of the people that declare this as a terrible version of the game. It has some very good ideas in it.

The DMG 2 is about to come out and it has the update to the skill challenges that they have been working on from the release of fourth edition. I think it is close but is not where it could be. This is an attempt to give the detail to non-combat encounters that you have in combat encounters. This in a turn based system. I think this might add a lot to the PnP RPGs in the long run. Crafty Games did a little with this in their Spycraft 2.0 but it was just a start. WotC has picked it up in a big way and moved it forward. Now we just need to see it further developed so that it becomes as standard as the combat. I would like to see this for all game systems out there.

Sorry if I hindered your ability to resist.
