The Mark 1 tank in traveller... or not.

oh ok...
Can you see any issues, or anything I have missed with the above design?

The only Q I have is the range of the vehicle. The Challenger 2 has a range of ~550km. I think the design makes it 1125km using its cruise (not top) speed...

Ah see, that's just my basic tactic of butting in 1000 litres of fuel...
I always do it on designs, but range isnt a big issue. If it is, drop a half ton of fuel :p

Cool. I thought you got the 1k liters from the actual tank specs.

Good design!

I would put us at early TL8. Haven't got the fusion going, but we certainly have the capacity to build and maintain permanent space habitats, and to reach other planets. There's a difference between capability and political and social will to fund the projects.

International Space Station has been crewed continuously for 10 years now, and the Russians crewed Mir for about as long. Luna base could have been started any time over the last 30 years if the money had been thrown at it.

Actually, at this point in time, we haven't developed the tech to send humans to other planets in the system. NASA, JPL, etc., are working on it but there are MANY large hurdles yet to be figured out. That's why they are looking at a one way trip... We also can't yet build perm stations. Look it up.

Rereading the core descriptions, it states we're *between* TL7 and TL8. So either *very* early TL8 or full TL7 with TL8 prototypes. Everyone pick an opinion to suit themselves.

I don't believe it says anything about sending humans to nearby planets, just that they can be reached and "full colonisation is not within the culture's capacity". What we've been doing with probes on Mars, Jupiter, Saturn etc over the last decade seems to me to have crossed a threshold from the previous generation, but that's my opinion.

Are you disputing a lunar base is outside our capacity? Outside what the governments are willing to spend, perhaps...
