The Expanse

Since last summer, I've been enjoying The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey (aka Daniel Abrahams and Ty Franck) and I'm looking forward to the TV adaptation coming this December. As I read the books, I can't help but think that this is a setting ripe for role-playing and that Traveller would be the best system to use. The series has everything a Traveller player would love: space combat, gritty gun fights, political intrigue, and multi-dimensional characters with varied, detailed, pasts. (I can's help imagine the authors using the career and prior history systems to create them.)

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Hmm, you could probably play it pretty easily right out of the box, with a few tiny tweaks.

The setting assumes a hyper efficient reaction drive, which seems to never run out of fuel. To that end you could just use maneuver drives, but I might make them bigger since ships dont' have jump drives. Maybe give maneuver drives the equivalent size for jump drives in the CRB? Deck plans would be oriented to make use of constant thrust.

A lot of the tech has a kind of 2300 feel, so that might be a good resource as well.

A lot of the career paths are 1:1 compatible. Allegiances and loyalty seem pretty important throughout the series, so I'd play with that during chargen, so that the GM has threads to pull on.

Oh and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the Expanse actually started out as a game setting.

I hope SyFy doesn't botch it.
