Commander X here. You may remember me from such ludicrous inventions such as the Meson Turret, the Fusion Spinal Gun, and the 50G Kinetic Kill Missile. Such was the pleasure of playesting and destroying technical architecture rules in the 90s. Remember fusion powered sub-orbital pogo sticks? Not one of mine, but oh the memories.
Been a long time since those days, and I see a beta test is in the works. So I ponied up the creds, got the files and started to see what's what. So far, I am impressed. Been thumbing through the main book so far and looking for changes from 1e. At work so I only got as far as character generation which looks about the same except for the inclusion of pre-career choices like University or Military Academy. I did skim over the ship rules (did you think I wouldn't?) and am trying to understand the new power rules. The Free Trader seems a bit under-powered, but I suppose that might be intentional? (lumbering, cranky, pig of a ship that they are) Gonna have to take another look at that as well as HG rules.
I've read in the forums a bit already, but I'm sure I might repeat things already mentioned as I am about a month late to the party.
Starting a small group to run through with this. Some new players, some not so new. I'll gather thoughts and concerns and post as they pop up.
It feels great to be back and helping mold the game once more.
