The Beyond is a mess

Actually thinking of Pandemonium subsector in Vanguard Reaches - a dozen worlds literally named after Nazi SS divisions.

Which was just tasteless even for 1981.

Oh, yeah, I see that now. And there is Niebelungen, what do you know.
Yeah, that's got to go, though the sector itself isn't as broken as The Beyond. The worlds of Die Weltbund aren't even good German names, there's just as bad as the annoying English. I mean "Mental Home" "Broken bone" "Four Seasons"

Even "Die Weltenbund" isn't proper German, it should be "Der Weltenbund" oder just "Weltenbund", since it's a name and one doesn't quote names with articles in German, unless there is a specific reason. But the Vanguard Reaches subsector filled with Nazi names just has to go. It's not just tasteless, it's plain disgusting. Also, the Solomani Generation ships that landed there in the 650s or 700s have no true reason to be fanatic Nazis, unless Solomani history knows a reason to remember Nazis as people to idolize. Give the in-game history of the Solomani, I see no reason for that.

(This is a slightly shorted version of what I spent off to the T5SS list)

I'm continuing to work on The Beyond. During the week I tackled Subsectors B and C, Liberty Hall and Die Weltbund to try to build a more reasonable Die Weltbund.
This is like a puzzle with half melted pieces, some missing and a few duplicated that sort of fit.
Here is the play-by-play of my process:
https://geirbloodaxe.blogspot.com/2020/02/a-play-by-by-play-of-recreating-beyond.html

I put together a brief background for the government and did writeups of nine worlds across the two subsectors:
https://geirbloodaxe.blogspot.com/2020/02/brief-write-ups-for-beyond-subsectors.html

And did the stats for all the systems until they passed the data checker with no errors or warnings:
https://geirbloodaxe.blogspot.com/2020/02/the-beyond-system-system-data.html

I don't have extended stats for worlds that weren't copied in. Will add them when I build myself a generator for it, but for now, the maps work. I'm even adding metadata for borders and routes as I go.

Finally, as much as I hate they idea of flying humans, rather than wipe them from the universe without a trace, I have a suggestion for putting them (sort of) back in Subsector D and turning them into misinformation with a basis in truth:
https://geirbloodaxe.blogspot.com/2020/02/the-malgnar-problem-in-beyond.html

And a picture of the two subsectors:

If that doesn't work, it's on the blog:

Well, en would pluralize it.

I kinda doubt they would be Nationalistic Socialists, because it would be called Viertes Reich.

I'm not sure why the settlers of the new Weltbund should not have been able to use proper German. It would be Der Weltenbund, it should say Peenemünde, because you don't just drop the umlaut, and Nervenheilanstalt instead of Nerbenheilanstalt. It needs to be Hessen and not Hesse, the latter being the English name, and inconsistent with the theme. The same goes for Brunswick, which should be Braunschweig. Also, Schlechtwelt isn't a word in German, although you could go with Schlechte Welt (literally "bad world" and probably what was meant). I have no clue where Zeben comes from in the OTU, it's not German though.

Thanks. I differ to you on the German, because mine is based on American high school and college from more than 30 years ago and I never studied, because between English, Norwegian and a Bergen accent that thanks to centuries of Hanseatic influence sounds north-German, I could pass the class without studying and I did, though not well. I wasn't sure the umlaut would survive the creation process in Travellermap, but suppose it's worth trying. And Zeben, I don't know, maybe a scout wrote it phonetically and it's really Sieben ?

Hi, glad I could help out with my first language. Though "Zeben" really got me puzzled. I looked it up, though, and it seems it's the German name of a small town in Slovakia. It is called Sabinov (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabinov) in Slovakian, but - as history goes in Central Europe, has a long history of mixed influences from various ethnic and cultural groups, Slavic, German and Hungarian being the most important. At some point Germans settled in the region and the city became a free city of the Holy Roman Empire, called Zeben.

That's pretty obscure German history, though, and not representative on the same level as the other names used. Who knows, how the Ancients of GDW came up with that name, but there it is.

Pied Piper of Hamelin could actually be a folk memory of a significant migration.

German migration was encouraged into the Balkans, and I believe Russia itself.

I've finished my first draft of the whole sector , and now I need to deal with things I've neglected, so here is the data posted:

https://geirbloodaxe.blogspot.com/2020/02/the-whole-beyond-first-draft.html

Still to do is to finish subsector and world articles at a minimum. In addtion to those "required" sections, my draft documentation also has the following headings:
  • Interstellar States
    Organizations of The Beyond
    Races of The Beyond
    Ships of the Beyond

But much of that material is little more than a sentence or two or some prompts for me to detail out later.

Updated all the data to T5 standards:
