Looks like! :D

We´ve been waiting for 2nd ed for a while now, and I think especially those that went through an "Armageddon Crisis" (when that couldn´t live up to the expectations people put into it) learned to be patient.

What we´ve heard about 2nd Ed sounds very promising; and Mongoose have kept us on the edges of our seats with new ships and other goodies in S&P - so there´s enough to work with for the near future.

Mongoose will have to give us the new Edition eventually though... But I´m quite confident that they will make the release date (or something close enough to it)

I think they will make the release date but i'd gladly wait another year if that means we get a new raider ship or two :p (ok ranting now)

I am hoping for a lean book that is on time. Though I would gladly suffer a typo or two. My experience with Star Fleet Battles shows that perfection takes a long time and sometimes kills whole products. I waited forever for a new suppliment for SFB once, only to have them completely redo the game and drop that suppliment from the list. It did not reappear until about two years after the new edition came out.

I would prefer they get it as right as possible the first time than waste time and money on pushing out an inferior product.

While I'm not expecting absolute perfection I expect it to be reasonably typo free. One or two typos aren't an issue. When you can find them all over the place though there's a problem. I'd rather wait and Mongoose get it right than have a repeat of the typo heavy Sky Full of Stars or the waste that was Armageddon.

To fast to many Productions coud also lead in an Crisis look at Btech . Every one was not more playing because they where waiting for the newest stuff.

I think an updated rule/fleet book once a year is a bit much, even gw wait a decent period of time before re releasing published material. The game needs a chance to settle down without any new rule tweaks or special rules updates and changes once 2nd ed is released. There have been far too many changes since the original game was released, unfortunately some of those changes have gone back and forth changing from one set of rules to another like the fighter debacle. As mentioned in another thread, not all the changes since the original game and original fleet lists have been for the better, infact hardly any of them have improved or streamlined the game.

This is just me, but I think if you come out with the 2E books, then make playtestable ships and rules available in S&P, following that up with a collection of rules and ships every year, once the rules and ships have had the bugs worked out, you get a broader playtest sampling, to catch more errors, and people will buy the final product with a sense of greater ownership, as in, "I helped make that work!"

Of course, that is just me.

the problem with that is over such a huge group as an open playtest you would never get consensus of any type.

I don't think SFOS is that bad, ok so a couple of ships are over the top and a couple of ships got slaughtered, the trouble was it tried to be all things to everybody, fix the emines and fighter problems, sort out a couple of rules glitches, had far far far to many typos and was only out for a couple of months before Armageddon was announced and the cycle began again. Armageddon is published and low and behols withon a couple of weeks people are talking about v2.

We'll all eagerly awaiting the August release (ok I am still expecting it to be xmas) but how long will it be after that before everybody is talking about the next set of changes and what's going to be so great in the next supplement/upgrade/rules set/v3.77658

I feel like I am constantly playing catch up. I know the argument it you don't need to if you don't want to, but you cannot really play against other peole if you do not stay up to date.
