Tables and Charts in PDF

Now Mercenary is out, is there any chance we can get a consolidated weapon list from that and TMB? I'd be willing to pay 2 or 3 quid for a pdf that contained charts for all the personal weapons and armour and some of the other useful charts (like ranges and wpn mods etc). Essentially what you'd get on a Ref's screen, without the screen bit. :)

I would love a set of charts! Each set around a chart heavy task, such as: Trading, combat, stardship combat, and perhaps a cheatsheet for UWPs. I'm going to try to make them if someone else isn't nice enought to beat me to the punch.

I've made a cheat sheet from the TMB with...

Melee weapon table
Slug weapon table
Heavy weapon table
Weapon ranges table
Armour table
Vehicle table
Task formula table

Personal use only, ATM... unless notified otherwise... ;)

I always wondered why MG couldn't dedicate a few pages in the back of the book to tables of routinely needed lookups, esp in the PDF version where it wouldn't cost but an hour of time and not a dime in dead trees.

Well I'd guess that generally you want to keep PDF and print versions the same. Practically I imagine best to have the same source file for a product in both print and electronic forms (imagine the problems if the wrong one got sent to the printer and you ended up running off and extra 4 pages (euugh). Secondly if you offer more bits in the PDF version compared to the more expensive printed version when you offer both formats I'd expect it to be a BIG public relations problem as people will howl blue murder currently.

A GM screen is a useful solution. Also part of the issue is that supplements can quickly make a screen out of date. Thats where PDF comes in real handy.

I've created my own GM screen by typing into PowerPoint the tables I repeatedly need during a game. My wife bought me some Tri-Fold cardboard stock that is made for school projects. It's just a hair under 14 inches tall so I cut it in half to make two 7" three-panel screens, with the left panel of one overlapping the right panel of the other making for a five-panel screen. It works quite nicely but I'm working on stuff for the outside so the players aren't just looking at white cardboard.

I would be interested in any cheat sheets that may have been created. I have a GM Screen with clear vinyl pockets that I can slide letter-sized pages into, and was looking to create my own Traveller screen at some point. If the work's already been done, it would definitely save me the effort. :)

This is for Personal Use Only, of course.

Flynn

BTW, this is the screen I use:

I wanted to make a gm screen from the tables in the srd, but there was too much important stuff missing to make useful downloadable sheets. The only option would be to integrate the other tables, but leave the actual data empty. That way one could edit the tables by hand/pdf-editor or glue/copy parts from the Players Guide over it.

For those who already made a screen: which tables did you put on the same page?

That's the one I'm using as well. Love it!

I hate it...as the pages are in landscape and not A4 format...plus it does not have enough panels...8-10 for custom screen is the way to go.

But, I echo the sediment of a pdf of tables routinely updated for a small sum or free. As much I am looking forward to a MGT Screen...a quick reference guide is indispensible.

Here's another version that may be more your style, my friend:

Alternately, check out local restaurant supply stores for menu covers. They make great customizable GM screens!

mmm nice...

thanks and glad you like it.

For GM sheets I've bashed out 4 x A4 word documents, which consists of lots of tables shoved together, which I then put in plastic covers and clip to a homemade cardboard GM screen. On the front I'll put some useful stuff for the PCs to use, or some nice pictures to look at.

My sheets are:
2 x combat
1x skill and tasks
1x miscellaneous.

I did the same for my Judge Dredd (Game Workshop rules) game and it worked pretty well. I find you can keep on adjusting the documents as you progress.

As refs and players get more familiar with the rules then the known stuff can be dropped and other stuff put in - so you probably know how to do personal combat before you all get into doing space combat :D. So for Judge Dredd, I'll be dropping some initiative/ combat rules and slotting in some advanced driving rules for the next game.

Plus it's all wipe clean for when the massive bottle of coke explodes or the cat jumps on it and the cup of tea.

I also find, as a new ref, it helps me to learn the system a bit better... learning usually increases if you repeat and practice....

I remember when I were a lad and our group DMs (including me) made our own screens, painstakingly writing out charts and tables for DnD.. this was in the days before PCs. Even doing your own screens on a PC is loads quicker. Happy days. :D :D
