Tabbing Pages

I want to add reference tabs to my hardcover Traveller: Core Rulebook, but I don't want to damage the pages. Most of my game books have glossy paper, and the adhesive tabs can be removed without damaging the book. I'm somewhat uneasy about doing so with my Traveller game book since the pages are just regular paper. Has anyone else done this?

Or game book are meant to be used, sometimes they get used up.

I have gone through 3 or 4 copies of the the core books for CT.

I've copied the most commonly used parts of the book and put it into a tabbed binder.
