Stupid questions...

Mongoose
Well, finally played my first game tonight (WOOT!) and of course we ran into some problems. I have the basic rules (the ones with just a few Narn/Centauri ships) and SFoS suppliment (with just the fleet list a few updates).

A) CQ: How do I do this? Just roll a D6 and that is my CQ?

B) Fighters: Do they move first and fire last? Fire first and move last?

C) Turns: Say I win initiative. Since most of his fleet relies on boresight I wanted him to go first. He moves a ship, I move a ship... so on and so forth. Alright... now do I fire with all of my ships (since I won initiative) and then he fires with his?

These are dumb questions, I know, but I let my friend (opponet) borrow the books I have.

Thanks for any help.

A) The default CQ is 4. So if for example you needed to pass a crew quality check that requires a 9, you'd have to roll a 5+ and add your CQ of 4 to get 9. It changes in campaigns or if you play certain fleets such as ISA but generally it's always 4.

B) Currently, they move last and fire first. This has changed a few times.

C) Firing is alternated, same as movement, so you pick a ship and fire its weapons, they pick a ship and fire, etc. If you won initiative you get to choose who goes first, and I can't think of an occasion where you wouldn't want to go first yourself. The exception to this is fighters where (I think) all your fighters would shoot first, then all of his, before the ships open up.

Hope this helps.

I see. I couldn't find any instance of rolling for CQ (like in BFG) and I thought in order to pass a check of 9 than you would need to roll at least 2 dice.

Well, thank you. We opted not to play with SO in order to make the game go longer... which meant my Secundus rolled off the board cause I couldn't do any maneuverability SOs ( ).

I see. That makes more sence cause after the enemy has moved all his ships, the fighters can then all swarm like bees.

T-bolts are not to be underestimated... especially 3 of them with 3 Aurora flights. Did quite a bit of damage to a Vorchan of mine.

Then we were playing it right.

Yes, it does. I made a new fan, too. Bought my Earth ships (which I don't use anyway) and he promised to pick up a few more.

The trouble is mainly because the Starter set is not meant to be combined with SFOS, you really need the main box set to do that.

But I can understand you maybe holding off with 2e around the corner

this might seem like a dumb question, but are any of the tournaments held in london, or near to it, as the only tournaments i have seen are in the states, which is a bit far for me to travel! 8)
