Stunner practice

If it's a holographic target, the hologram projector would register where the 'hit' was. I've assumed some clip that attaches to the weapon that simulates the weapon being fired instead of it actually firing.

Although, if the hologram is high enough Tech Level, and you should buy/trade/acquire/steal nothing less, the hologram would catch the real stunner energy, the Gauss needle, or the bullet, in mid-air. That's the idea behind solid-air holograms.
Not sure solid holograms exist in Charted Space. Anyone know?

To be honest, if there's no recoil a VR setup would probably do fine for the target practice aspect of training a stunner or laser. Anything else like weapon maintenance or knowledge about different models would be studied or practiced the same as with as slug throwers.

Well, I'd think the mass and moments of inertia would be important... but clearly MgT doesn't, because Gun Combat (energy) is used for both laser rifles and derringer stunners (do they exist?). Hooray when I'm a player, and as a referee I wouldn't really want to open up the can of worms where you end up needing a skill for every single weapon, so I can live with that.

You'd practice with either the (safed) actual weapon in hand or a dummy that feels the same, I'd have thought.

The VR side of things is feeding you sight and sound regarding the target and the weapon's operations. Certainly allowing target practice to the extent that a firing range would for slugthrowers.

I'd also be interested in how armour interacts with Stunners. We have special armour that protects only against energy weapons. Those are broken down into various types of energy*. Most armours however are universal. So that should mean that TL10 cloth (which is pretty much default in my campaign as it is so cheap) renders the low end stunners all a bit useless.

If you are shot with a stunner and it doesn't "penetrate" would you know that you have been hit? Is there a sparkly blue dissipation? Does it nudge you? If it was hit with a conventional bullet there is still Kinetic Energy transfer so you would feel it. If it was a LASER there would be a scorch mark and probably the smell of scorched plastic and likely a sonic "crack". Do you tell your players that someone is shooting at them. If they can detect that then they can use that effect for target practice.

*Though there are no codes in the weapon section to help you choose, you have to guess which category weapons fall into given LASERs appear in the Energy weapons category, but are a distinct class in themselves (and other Energy weapons appear in the Heavy Weapons group). Does armour that protects vs Energy protect against MASERs, Matter Disintegrators, Pepper Spray and of course Stunners? They are all in the "Energy" weapon list.

Paltrysum has a CSC update thread in the feedback forum. Came out about the same time as the HG one
