Which book do I need to get the lowdown on designing starships?

Also, which software is helpful and simplistic when drawing deckplans?

Covered in the Core Rulebook. With more options and capital ships covered in High Guard.

Software wise, could do them with just about any drawing or painting program. For myself I find a vector based program works better. I use Inkscape.
