Starship Troopers v2, War of the Species

my god... didn't they tell you?

They moth-balled the kitchen too... you have nowhere to get your wet noodles.

Just from your tears, Gauntlet, just from your tears.

Anyway, back to a more positive note, who wants miniatures? Sure, they'll be full price with a shipping fee, but one of the stores in my area has a stockpile...

Serious question, Hiro. What does this company have to do before you get annoyed with them? What will it take to destroy your seemingly limitless optimism?

There's not alot else to cancel/not deliver/put on hold, so what's left?

Mongoose have had a lot of problems but I don't particularly see the point in getting angry with them because they've been unable to live up to their expectations or hype - they always try and do the best by their players, and that goes a long way in my and other people's books.

Am I upset that I might never get aircraft minis for SST? Yeah. Do I feel the need to vent my spleen at Mongoose? Not really. It's only a wargame, I can proxy or scratchbuild or go play another game. Not even an hour ago I was talking about this with a bug-playing mate of mine and saying that I'd be happy if we even got the WOTS rulebook out of this. So I'm certainly going to download the rules and play some games.

I think it's more the consistent let downs. Can't trust any of the silver linings until they're in your hand.

Well at least we'll get the rule book don't count until it's on your hard drive, until then it's just more words.

It is worth pointing out that a number of people already have it - so it exists and, frankly, we have no real reason to keep it to ourselves.

Let us sort out a few bits and bobs, and then we'll pass on the fruit of our labours.

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I agree to a certain degree - It's less that I'm wholly satisfied with Mongoose and more that I'm glad they're still trying to give us something. If I get the PDF (and it'll soon be a nice, bound colour printout courtesy of my fancy work printer). It shows that they respect and value their customers, moreso than GW's abrubt dropping of products with no warning and no future support.

Yeea!

It's a strange thing but without the miniature support and release schedule it all feels over.

The book will be a welcome addition (i agree that i'd pay for a printed copy.) but it still feels like defeat. No dropships, no new mini's at all. After all the hopes and Scorpio's involvement it seemed we might finally get it sorted. We read about what was gonna be changed and how it was progresing with new models and resin. Then all of a sudden-dead.

I can't get excited about the future of this because it never seems to pan out. From SST V1.0 to BF:Evo and now SSTT 2.0 just when you think it'll be alright we hit a brick wall.

It's all done alot of damage to the rep and the oppenent list for SST is exceedingly thin. If you snare a new player they ask where they can get it from and how much it costs etc and after hearing the state of play i doubt you'll get many takers. I started off with one opponent, talked 3 more round. Now one other person even owns an army. It's painful! I just don't see how the faithful can see any silver lining.

Thing is, Angry Angels, I have all the models I really need to play the game, and I've been playing SST v1 for a long time, even thought I get to fiddle with some of the other versions. And as long as I can find someone else interested in playing the game, I'm happy (I can get a game in at least once every other week). There's also an abundant amount of stock to choose from down where I live, so if I wanted to get more.....

Basically, the company would have to literally come and take my toys away from me to really get to me.

Well you know I have the same thing; I have most of the models I could possibly want, another 100$ and I am really all set...

My buddies are 'okay' with their armies, and proxying helps even it out... again another 100$ and they wouldn't need to proxy ever again.

And the prices are dirt cheap and available. Notably the biggest thing holding us back has indeed been wanting new rules. And that will be solved too... either by Mongoose releasing, or by me making some.

Thats not the point; allot of us simply got attached to the game as a game, and therefore as both a product and idea beyond our own personal collections. Now obviously I'm sure you feel the same way, but you are probablly just a little more detached than some of us.

So it is rather natural for many of us to be mourning the game's passing. I for one did a shot and gave a toast last night to the poor little game.

In addition if SST the forum gets merged into the Evo forum, I see no reason to really stay... we lose the community identity and I really see it as Mongoose consolidating its game 'graveyards' into one easier to keep track of spot.

I've never played ST.
But i' always like to read up the ST forum, you guys are a dedicated bunch of gamers and very creative.
Maybe sheltering together with BFE in this harsh gaming winter while we wait for Spring isn't such a bad idea?
Stength in numbers? :)

Well, there's really nothing I can do, and whining about it doesn't really solve anything. So I'm really just grining and bearing it.

It really sucks, but we can pull through this, we really really can. Especially when Starship Trooper 3 gets released (the movie)

Well whining and expresses dismay and sadness are slightly (allbeit slightly) different things.

I for one am going to do what I can to help SST survive 'in exile'

Oh come now.... If you want, I'll give you a cookie too!

Besides, nothing like keeping it going via the fans. Heck knows campaign books can be kitbashed together for the community... and Scipio's making an SST forum (there are hints of others too), so we'll not go quietly into the night.

Yes I did suggest to scipio that we make a unified scenario/campaign library.

In addition I want his forum set up to support a gallery, and our own semi-official 'Rule Masters' and FAQ.

In addition to optional units (you fit in there now don't you!) and a listing of available and useful proxy models.

Right now I am putting together my big final purchase list...
