Starship Troopers Evolution

8 months or so before the Pre-painted start moving, plus however many months it takes for Brutes, Tawn Riders and Speeders, not to mention the MI Skimmer that has been in the book for what seems like forever...that's brief? I don't know, call me old fashion.

Well, on the plus side your existing figs will be pimped out by then ...

hmm. when i read the news first, i was slightly disappointed, as i'm not a fan of prepaints. but after thinking about it, it struck me that 2/3 of all the gaming grumbles we have in my group is about painting. for me, it takes forever to paint anything, and it still looks like an explosion in a paint factory. so, while i may be customizing the minis(like overpainting the armour on PAMI for eg.)
, it will save me time. plus, the horror of trying to get the hands right will end
so-as long as you don't forget about making PAMI in shooting position(i like my minis static  ) i'm all for it.

question on BFEvo-
will Poland be included in teh European force, as a list at least, or will i have to mix Euro and Chinese models to get the minis righ?(i don't think you would make a mini of a PT-91, but hey  )

Britain, France and Germany will all be covered in the first year. As for the others, we will likely do them based on popularity - as both games will be multi-lingual, they may get a strong contingent in Europe!

so, it seems it's five-o-clocks for me for a while(well, i'll just say that we bough the stuff from UK  )
btw-could you at least give us a seek peek at the "history" of the game? what happended from now till the "present" of the game universe?

WOW Guys.

Its been along time since I have even looked at my SST stuff, no one here plays the game, the local distributer charges a lovely markup (almost double the price of OS) and that has serverly limited the games exposure here in Australia...... but his vision is visionary!

Time to start saving for January for preperations of a HUGE OS order! 8)

Erm... so the Battlefield Evolution models will be prepainted?
I hope the SST Models won't be so.

p.s. It's good to see things are movin' 8) :D

Matt, what of the long-anticipated dropships? Have they been killed?

Absolutely not - flying units will be front and centre in the new releases, starting with the TAC Fighter and the Skinnies' Starlight Speeder. . .

As I already mentioned, I'm currently in a WW2 phase (alzo zero 1/72).

I can come into BF Evolution, and frankly I'm looking forward to it (but first the rules, then the minis this time - comes to mind I bought the rulebook for flames of war, went to a demo and the game did me not a thing).

Thanks for the prepainted figs.
I have a fine standard, though I barely have time to paint my figs (2 little kids and a third on its way - I'm speaking of painting at 01.00 in the morning or getting up at 05.00 to finish things up).

What oh what will the store owner do now the only three people that bought the SST game will stop buying thoe last few lot boxes he has on his shellves???
I for one won't buy any SST fig for the foreseeable future as I willl be waiting for the prepainted ones (my MI platoon is all painted up except for 3 grizzlies).

What I realy don't like is the setback for the forth.
It would have instigated a new drive in the game for me.

I like the future, but I don't like the present.

Where do I go from here?

An occasional battle of MI vs Bugs and probably a lot more attention to Alzo Zero and their free downloadable rules.

I'm not a hypocrit so I won't say I won't be visiting this forum anymore, but probably put everything on hold until next year ( and that's still a long way to make up our minds)

Hmmm, I have followed sst since the beggining, but as of yet have not played much due to no one to play against in the area. But I am worried about this "all the rules in the box" business. Does this mean that there will be no army books/rule books? How will weapon options work? THe thing I am most worried about is the pre-painted business. I know lots of gamers really dislike painting minis, but supplying pre-painted and pre-moddeled miniatures, doesnt the game lose the originality in armies. I dont object too much to the bugs, as bugs usually look the same anyway. But the MI, everone uses different uniforms and suchlike. How easy will it be to paintover the existing paintjobs? How easy is it to customize my minis, converting and suchlike?

My initial reaction was: WOW that is cool.

After reading some of the pros and cons, I gave it a little thought.

I get to play games a couple of times a week because that is when me and my friends can find the time. I get to paint as often as I choose to make that use of my other free time. Sometimes I want to play a particular game but haven't finnished (or started) a particular figure, so painting can be a requirment for a particular game. It can therefore feel like a chore sometimes.

I do like playing with my nicely painted figures. But I am often bummed out when I place my figures (which I think look great) against the beautifully painetd minis that someone else has done. It doesn't stop me painting though.

I want to see SST do well. It is a great game and I love it. If the prepainted minis get the members of my club to buy some stuff and so I can have a game more often that is great.

I have quite a few unpainted SST minis (and a trillion Doctor Who and B5 FA) and have refrained from buying more precisely because I have so many waiting. When the painted versions of minis I want come along, I will jump at the chance.

To sum up:
No more rushed painting before a game.
No more chore painting for a game.
More players = more games.
No more not buying because I have a ton of unpainted minis.
Slight disappointment because I like painting.

On the whole 90% great!

Finally, I can actually sit down and play one of these games without having to start a year later once I've actually gotten around to painting them...

Even better, I can concentrate what little painting time I have on conversions and painting over the more important models, rather than having to sit and paint squads. I've always preferred painting individual figures to squads, so thats a bonus. I can sit and add weathering effects to troops and vehicles as the bulk of the painting is already done. It isn't going to stop me painting, and will mean I can enjoy more the time I do spend painting doing the things I want to do rather than the repetitive prep work in getting the figures to where they need to be in order to do the detailed stuff I enjoy.

I have a two-year painting backlog already, and plenty of other games that require me to spend half my life painting in order to play them, so this fits in with my needs perfectly. I'll be able to play BF: Evo from day one instead of three months later - even better.

I noticed someone earlier asked a question about whether this would make a difference for retailers not pushing SST enough in their stores. In my opinion, it'll make one hell of a difference - retailers can actually put the figures on display and set up demo tables, without having to get them all painted first.

Most importantly, finding new gamers - there'll be far more new players in all games as more people are going to go for the prepainted minis for their first game, rather than more expensive plastic kits.

Some people aren't going to like it (okay, already don't, that's obvious) - I can only say I had most of the same concerns at first, but the longer I thought about it, the more I came to like (and prefer) the idea. For those that like painting, I really don't see why this should stop you repainting (I'm going to have fun converting the BF Evo stuff into alternative forces that haven't been produced to compliment those that have) :)

All of this is on a unit's card, included in the box.

This also has the benefit, incidentally, of not requiring players to buy new army books and rules updates throughout the life cycle of the game - you get to concentrate on the miniatures alone. . .

Hey Matt,

Couple of questions...

1. BF evolutions sounds distinctly like a well know first person shooter, is it the same line?
If it is, what are the chances of upgrading the MI program. I will wholeheartedly support the endevor, and would as well like the opportunity of playing this game for the Demo program. Please elaborate on the current state of affairs within the program.

2. With the advent of the SST evolution, what are you doing to aleviate the fears, and get LGS's on board?
My current shop is overtly hostile to SST, and after my last try with trying to play a game of SST there, I found that the reception of my working on my mini's there to drum up even less intrest, and turn into a " Warmachine is the shiznit" conversation.

3. I would like to know the state of the Fourth? Are they going to be produced and be out soon, or are they going on the back burner with the new game?

4. I see alot of fear with the new release of the game, and one thing I would like to ask is availability.
Will we have to worry about the stocks falling by the wayside of earlier releases, as with heroclicks, or ccg's or will there be a good supply of your product not falling to the wayside, for " new and improved" versions?
