Starship Troopers Evolution

I am guessing in the 1 per month releases we will probably see, Cap Troopers, Marauders, weapons assests?????.

Indeed. Many creations, old and new ;) Oh, and flying units will be given something of a priority in the line up so yes, you'll be able to get your hands on the TAC Fighter and its friends quite early on!

I must also say having read through the post a couple of times you have put some planning into this and like it or not I think it is a step in the right direction for mongoose, not sure if all agree though.

There has been no project that Mongoose has done before that has had as much time, effort and planning put into it. . .

So the paint quality is that of all the pics in your post Matt? and as someone metioned earlier how easy witll it be to overpaint, can we toch up what is there with say Vellajo or GW paints or will we need to reprime before painting?

Last one, is the a guaranteed time the existing model range will be available for?

Yes, you are looking at the final paint quality - this is something we have worked very hard to achieve, principally because we saw the pre-painted samples from A N Other company. When they turned out to _not_ be the production quality, we were left holding these wicked creations in our hands :)

We are aiming for January for Battlefield Evolution, though some
countries may not see them until early February. Starship Troopers Evolution is set for April.

I was thinking more along the lines of the shelf life of the existing SST models we know and love, will they remain in production for some time yet?

And thanks for the quick responses, i guess you have set some time to camp on this post and be ready for the onslaught. Promise I will sit back and watch now :D

I am in happy place, and a sad place;

Happy,

since its making the hobby more accessable and you can just tear open a box and start playing straight away :D

Sad,

well cos I like painting minis, and well you know that warm glow you get when you have painted your own army or fleet !

But its nothing I am opposed to, and I am looking forward to the results.

Ah, sorry - we have absolutely no plans to end the current range. You should still be able to order them ten years from now!

OIC...now I am well happy. It means I can collect unpainted minis, and paint my own colour schemes. But I can also buy the new prepainted stuff too, now that does get my vote. :D

So in 2007, GW beware, there is a Mongoose about

Now this is interesting and genuinely innovative.

I have never played the game (no opponents) and have never been quite sure why I've bought and painted so much of it. I can easily field 3000 pts of painted MI and 2500 of Bugs. I guess I just like the Warrior bug models a lot.

Given that, the rules always struck me from reading them as just too jolly complex and I hope this 'game in a box' system simplifies them.

Overall this strikes me as a darn good way to get the game into a lot of hands, and get a lot of people playing very quickly.

And I have to say 'wow' about the standard of painting for pre-painted models. You are right, the are better than I do myself. Not that that's saying all that much, but I do achieve a standard I can live with.

QUESTION HERE:

One technical question, purely out of curiousity. Are these models painted by a new-tech machine-based system? Or by old-tech cheap Chinese/Indian/Sri Lankan/Pakistani/Bangaladeshi labour?

If the former, it is obviously the wave of the future for mini games - or at least one wave of the future.

Anyway. Interesting. I will finish my Powersuit platoon the Old-fashioned way (just 8 figs left to paint for a full platoon) and look forward to adding exos, LAMI and air assets the easy way.

I'll just have to call the new Warrior Bugs 'Tigers' or 'Guards' or something as they are so much more spiffy than my paint jobs.

One small suggestion you have probably already considered.

As you are now providing a game for lazy folks who want a ready-made game (not that there's anything wrong with that), how about ready-made terrain kits? Probably easier to produce than figs.

Anyway, good luck with this and looking forward to seeing more. :-)

So could we get the new models unpainted at a lower price than the painted ones?

I only ask this because I too like to paint my models, but will surey get some of the pre-painted ones. I just hate to paint over a really good paint job just to have a variation in color schemes and I'm sure there will be variations.

All-in-all I'm am very happy with what you have in store for the future of SST and am glad to be a part of the SST community. Bravo!

Hmmm.

I'm guardedly optimistic, I like the idea of Battlefield Evolution, and a redefinition of the SST rules with mass clarifications is a good idea. that said pre-assembled, pre-painted plastic minis gives me a healthy dose of The Fear, though I applaud the decision to keep the existing line in production too.

Not the greatest announcement ever form my perspective, but there's enough there to keep me happy, even if my wallet just broke down and cried

I hate to say it, but this all sounds too good to be true. I can't shake the feeling that I'm going to end up with a bunch of Mechwarrior Dark Age quality junk.
How are they going to make them without any detectable mold lines?

Oh man, this really wasn't what I was hoping for. I may be able to get into Battlefield Evolution but to me modeling, converting and painting minis is half the hobby. I like the weight of lead in my hand. I like having an army that is unique because of it's paint scheme. I was so looking foward to assembling and painting Tac Fighters and dropships.

Now I won't get any Skinnie Brutes, Tawn Riders, Skimmers or Venerable Marauders unless I wait almost a year for prepainted plastic? I may feel different after digesting this news in a few days but right now I just don't see that happening.

Well, after rereading the article, I think it's worse news than i though it was at first.

Less than 3 products per amry per year? That sucks.
At least 8 months until we see anything new? That sucks worse.

Those pre-painted Exosuits, Light Armour MI and Warrior Bugs all look amazing! I've been following Rackham's upcoming game, AT-43. Rackham are known for their quality, but your pre-painted miniatures simply blow their own out of the water!

I suppose they'll be more expensive though (their has to be a catch here somewhere)?

And that is the soonest we will see anything as far as the new rules for SST goes. Barring the free updates to the current rules in S&P (assuming they come out every month  ) The complete rule book wont be out for 2-3 months after that? Over a year for a complete new rule book?

Hmmmmnnnn.....

Will be a lot to digest I guess. :x

I am a creature of habit and I fear change. So, on one hand this scares me as I've seen other companies changes and they usually end up hosing the game. On the other hand, this will be a good thing if it gets new players and continued support for the game.

New, slightly different SST is better than no SST at all.

Hopefully the new and old stuff will mesh together well. I guess the determining factor will be when I can see a new figure and old figure on the table together and give the new rules a once-over.

Oh well, off to finish my current armies and then hold tight for a few months to see what happens(while playing catch up on assembly and painting).

Not only that but the very models most people have been waiting the longest for, The Forth and dropships, we won't even see until the middle of next year. The holdouts at my LGS, those waiting to put together Forth armies or until the release of dropships are now irretrievably lost as future players.

I thought msprange said one box set per month per army, so each army gets one release per month. Probably staggered at one release per week.

ok.... i'm seething.... if i wanted to play a pre painted game i'ld play starwars minis, i f***ing NEED to model and convert things.... t hats how i role...if u can buy the new kits coing out un-assembled and un-painted i'll be behind this all the way, otherwise i'm out... i can't handle that...
