Starship Troopers Evolution

Nah, it's a showing of understanding Max. And no, I didn't miss the point about Kurds wanting Kurdistan. Saddam actually supported activities of Kurds in Turkey, while Turkey supported activities of Kurds in Iraq. Same Ethnicity, same use of Pawns.

But Hiro, with every post you're moving away from your original point (Although I suppose it was pretty fuzzy to begin with).
I was just pointing out the fact that you were proving Xeorans point, you still haven't really addressed that dude... :D

And if you're going to claim you have a complete understanding of the Kurdish sittuation, bully to you mate, an army of super powered intelects like you and the worlds problems are solved, but I doubt that very much.

Hell I nominal support an independant Kurdistan, but if it were to ever come about there's be a lot of flared tempers so you'd have to wait for a time when people over there aren't pissed off (understandably) at something... Which is to say never :?

Xeoran: Turkey in't a member state yet, infact it was only really at the table because the US for some reason offfered that as part of the trade off for using their air space to bomb Iraq. Quite how the US gets to make these decisions I didn't understand, Turkey is still the sick man of Europe really so the EU's filling all the slots with Former Sov block countries which are much nicer :!:

Actually there'd be huge chunks of it reduced to radioactive ash if there were a ton of people like me....

And as for the claim of that I know, hey, from where I sit all I get the US CENTCOM's picture.

And if you go back and read, you'll find this tactfully (if by tactfully I mean a bag of doorknobs/hammers) inserted: Ah, ok...actually, you'll find that Ethnicity gets tossed aside in the Middle East when there's a clear and much stronger force involved. Same with Religion. Remember the Iran-Iraq War? Saddam thought...let's see...he was what? Shia? He thought the Shia would rise up and support his invasion of Iran. Nationalism won out and..well, the rest is that conflict.

Effectively, it won't matter if group A hates group B if group C is a bigger threat to them.

And again:
Anyway, back onto topic now, Matt's mentioned unpainted models as special orders.... What do you folks think? Good idea?

Right o', makes a bit more sense now.
So you're seeing the MEA as drawn up along National lines rather than ethnicly which is exactly what Xeoran was saying :D (his caveat being that if they did Iran might be a problem).
Conjecture time!
So for the MEA to come about ten years from now we need something big enough to unite all of the Arab world, without them attacking Israel for some reason (Probably because Israels gone even more super tech, seems like that would sell alot of models... :? ), the US by now has probably installed puppet governments in all the oil bearing states in the MEA (They're doing pretty well already) so they're probably actually on the US side. A novel twist would be if Israel had severed ties with the US (Maybe they want to finish the temple but a christian nut job US Presidents imposed sanctions if they do) maybe the US has become increasingly isolationist over the current decade and left the world to explode in a inferno of unused 1980's CIA assets, before coming in to clean up when its all blown over (Like that Armegeddon RPG), then we'd have the eastern european cold war between the EU, US, China and Russia which is going on as we speak as everybody tries to grab the unexploited reserves that are just sitting there waiting for development.
Britain's probably still hanging back outside of the EU and sucking up to the US trying to desperatly turn things to her benafit (hey not everything will chage :D), and the EU is expanding throughout all of the continent because its the nicet block to be in!
Its all a bit to close to comfort for me, I kinda feel better pushing goblins and stuff around :)

The way I see the politics of this game is that each geographic block is represented with specific unit types and vehicles. Said vehicles and troops are then offered up to the gaming god of meyhem for sheer fun.

Any real world political connections would ruin it for me. I just don't think I'd be OK personally with playing the game knowing what the real life guys are facing over there as we speek with that kind of set up. Or, at least, I couldn't see playing US or Brits anyway.

I was happy to see that there will be a "world" book for the game, framing the conficts and forces. It will be more fun as an abstraction, rather than a recreation of current events.

Either way, this game looks like it will be mostly based on conventional warfare so far. That's a whole other interesting conversation in itself.

ok, here's arequest. Can one of the powers that be give Battlefield Evolution it's own forum? I know that it is related to the SST evo, but all this political & religious arguing has nothing to do with SST Evo and alot of newbies are signing on and we don't want to run them off before they even get into the game.

No offense guys, I like a good argument / fight as well as anyone, I just want to read about SST Evo here.

Exactly Max. Why didn't I say that in the first place?

And effectively we are big enough for the scenario you're conjecture-ing up to occur. According to some, the US is a MegaPower, on a 2, 4, 8 system...meaning the next two largest countries need to join to match us, then the next four, and so on.

Thats a good idea Bubba! There probably will be alot of that going on, and it'll help to cut down on some of the disagreements if all the near future wargame can be avoided (Heinlein's work being what it is and all).
The miniature games section of the forums gonna look pretty crowded soon with all the new stuff coming out! :D

No doubt that the US is a mega power, it was just one too late to do any of the cool stuff which comes with it :D

Yep....and I'm pretty much to blame too...so for me:

I wouldn't worry too much Hiro, you can't release a near future game without this happening, I'm sure Mongoose have factored all the contraversy into their plans and are looking forward to some free outraged advertising! 8)

Yeah...

Now about my question:

Matt's mentioned unpainted models as special orders.... What do you folks think? Good idea?

I like that...especially where the Forth are concerned.

No Saddam is Sunni. The Iranians believed the majority Shia in Iraq would rise up and support them but they still considered themselves Arab and fought alongside fellow arabs versus the persians

Well since Rackhams doing it with AT-43 I think its a given that it'll happen, imagine all the whinging which would happen otherwise.
And to be honest painting over something thats already been painted is in no way as easy as everyones making out, you loose your personal vision of what the piece should be (Which is for me one of the greatest parts of pulling naked lead out of a blister) because someones already interpreted it through the paint job.

Many thanks, Penguin....so both sides were hoping for the effect then.

Max: Well, that's true...I could always offer to prime your pre-painted miniatures black for free?

Too late, once you've seen the model painted you can't quite throw it from you're mind, that flourish which you saw as a metal is forever leather once you've held the model in you're hand, those bitchinggloves you would have seen are now bare hands. Its like expecting a proper artist to paint over a used canvas, its not about reality its about integrity :D
To be honest though the last thing I painted was some grenadier stuff that the previouse owner had already done so I am biased :D

Hehe, actually since I recently changed my favourite centaur model based purely on her boobs I don't really have much integraty to speak of
But seriosuly, check these beauties out!
colletta_green.jpg

Whats even worse is I don't even like centaurs...
Maybe painting prepaints isn't so bad after all
