Starship Troopers Articles

Mage

Mongoose
I'm not being a Neg (negative person) but I feel that starship troopers is being left out int he cold in our favourite gaming magazine. I know Evolution is coming up, and it will rock, but it seems like a long train ride waiting for it.
Maybe a game design notes article from the goose themselves would be cool (races theya re thinking about, ideas that never came to light because x y z, ideas they have, etc.). Maybe something officilal on what we are expecting to see over the first year.

I take it you have seen the articles on the Forth? As SST Evo draws near you can rest assured that the articles will flow in. Invariably the nature of a game in transition means there is a dip but there's no need to worry.

Ok, unlike Mage, Im not scared of being labled a 'Neg' (Hell its way to late for that anyway lol), but we are well down on what was proposed to be printed in S&P, no starlight skimmers, no setting update, only one stat line preview etc.
The first Forth preview was a virtual copy and paste of the original preview we were given before the game was shelved, and the scound one, whilst being much much better was only two pages long. This late into the games relaunch people are bound to be dissapointed (Especially if the last months preview was pretty much the same thing...).

I don't think people are asking for a full SST issue, infact I think you're doing a very good job of supporting the other games right now, but what we would like is something we havent seen before, maybe some model previews (And you must have a great deal of the new greens by now), something that shows there has been an improvement from the BF:E launch and more importantly that you're still on schedual for a late August release (Because Im begining to think GenCon will just be an announcement now), and most importantly the PAMI squad stat line!
I know that they've likly been nerfed in some way (Like setting a unit cap at 5, or reducing the heavy weapons choices) so that MI forces contain more than one officer and two squads of 8, but even if that is the case I, and Im sure most of the other existing players, would seriously like to see how the bulk of our forces are going to be performing.

Personally I havent always agreed with Mongooses choices or quality control on alot of the releases, the missiles or skinny slaves spring immediatly to mind, but I know the company is determined to go in its own direction, even if it means mistakes are made along the way, so I doubt theres any chance of affecting the outcome, I just wish we could see what sort of things were happening before it all finalised and they're in the shops!

Well, I know that they have two of my terrain articles yet unpublished and one has a scenario embedded into it.

Of course my gaming experience is more in my past than my present and the scenario is untested (meaning it might be a stinker, lol). That's why I keep busy making terrain and painting models more these days, as I'm stuck 7 days a week running a struggling small business. I have dead time on my hands with which to dedicate to my imagination and creative side. :D

How would you guys feel about "Starship Troopers meets Cretaceous Park", eh?

Would that get your juices, curiosity (and adrenaline) flowing?
Any requests? -granted PDF room was available after other commitments of course.

I can't believe that dinosaurs could give the MI a problem (after all any 12-year old kid gymnist can beat a Velociraptor).

I ask you, what did that poor lizard ever do to them ?

You are correct, actually. It's not really the fault of the dinos. They don't have any say in the matter though, as "something else" is pulling their strings...

damn Control Bugs

He's right, you know. I wrote up a story where dinos were cloned on another planet from Earth, because the scientists saw the danger posed if they ever got out (they saw the old sci-fi movies you see, heh). The Bugs landed there and were able to make use of a biology that was already Earth-compatible. Sort of a case where Earth was "hoisted on their own petard" so to speak. I liked the idea of a fun scenario where Brain-Bug "puppet masters" would be able to have Tyrannosaurus rex's running about. The M.I.'s job is to keep this "asset" from being taken possession of and shipped to Earth under Bug control.

I didn't include any Japanese civilian tourists running about with cameras. Too bad, really.

So....
what great SST content is in the queue for S&P 52?
Mini previews?
Packaging previews?
More expansion on the discussion of future plans for the game?
Fluff sneak peek?
Nothing?

I'd say there is a 100% chance of at least one of your possibilities coming true.

SST is in the process of a complete overhaul, so there will be a couple of dead months while we gear up for the summer releasae. Suffice to say that at long last it looks like the long awaiting flyers will finally come into being, in resin format. The new Tanker is looking great as well.
