Starship Deck Plans

Don't laugh too hard :) Someone has actually done a Traveller ship in SIMS, a type S Scout/Courier iirc. I had a link once upon a time but it was ages ago. Google might turn it up or maybe someone else has kept tabs on it. I never had SIMS so I didn't.

There was also some Traveller deckplan work done in:

Second Life

Marathon (an old mostly Mac game by Bungie before they did Halo)

...and at least one more game engine level editor though the name escapes me at the moment.

Yep - there have been quite a few... though ever one I found was a one shot deal (and usually pretty crude).

Middenface's sketchup model is still my favorite (he did a scout and launch IIRC...)

I would prefer to see a small supplement book that goes into detail on how to deckplan a ship.
Alot of new players get confused on how many squares represent a dton, what common space is and how much should be assigned, the % of dton taken or added to be allowed on a deckplan etc. A book like that could solve alot of issues.

Agreed. This could remove one more barrier for new players.

Ah - you all mean like a viable example of how to design deckplans? Same could be said for:

Combat
Space Combat
Trade
Capital Ship Combat
Vehicle Design (I suspect)
Robot Design

And, while we are at it - one could also clarify CharGen and add clearer 'abnormal' task examples...

Basically - 'Cliff Notes for the Mongoose Traveller'

Its too bad rule designers/publishers fail to see the need for clear and comprehensive examples. To me, this should easily be 1/2 to 3/4 of the content by page count. Of course, rules and editing have to be consistent and complete for this to really work as intended (a nice check and balance if proof readers are involved).

S&P is a great place for this after the fact - though it will probably raise the same issues that are raised on the forum that do not have an official answer because such were not addressed at edit time. Hello more Errata!

Don't doubt it - I just got struck by the phrase and its similarity to a certain muppets show sub-show... :)

Hmmm … I think this thread has been hijacked a bit. The original request (which I was trying to bump) was for the release of existing material. It might not be of interest to everyone but would be of interest to some and the outlay from Mongoose would be negligible.

But that now seems buried under requests for new content that is only partially related to the original subject matter. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be interested in these too, but new content would have to be commissioned, written, edited, printed and distributed. And it would first have to be evaluated against Mongoose’s marketing plans.

These are not mutually exclusive options. So can we have access to the existing material now, and then look at what new content we want?
