Rikki Tikki Traveller
Cosmic Mongoose
I just received the hardback version of Stars Without Number, a nice blend of Traveller and D&D with a good dose of Transhumanism and Space Opera thrown in.
The original rulebook was released as a FREE pdf about a year ago, but the hardback contains more new info, including AIs and Mechs as well as a Xenobestiary and a lot of NPCs and Ship/Mech designs.
For those who are looking for a nice blend of SciFi and D&D, this book does it!
SWN has no "official" setting as it was specifically set up as a Sandbox for GMs. It does have a past history that describes the rise of humanity to almost the Singularity and then The Scream comes and smashes everything down. It is several centuries later and pockets of humanity are returning to the stars. You can design your own Sector and start playing whatever kind of game you want: Exploration, Military, Espionage, etc. Additional books should be forthcoming and Sine Nomine Publishing has several other small books and free stuff available from their website to support the game.
There is even a Fanzine that has been started. Issue #1 was released last week.
