Starline 2500 Lyran Light Cruiser

Star Trek ships are very small compared to B5 and 40K who have cool looking turrets

Always found it disconcerting that the white star (which tended to behave like a dogfighter) was the size of a Constitution-class...again, clearly visible guns on that one.

He theorized that since space was an extremell dangerous place, starship engineers would not put any important machinery on the outside of their vessel. This meant that, logically, the hull would be smooth. Not everyone agreed with Jefferies and he had to fight his corner. "I constantly had to fight anyone who wanted to put surface details on the thing," he says.
As noted, there are enough things that would need to be on the outside, plus the fact that it's going to be built in modules. Still, never mind.

personally, i just want some panel lines. not fussed about gun emplacements, these are very rarely seen in any startrek franchise.
One of the things I do like in the newest film. In fact, the enterprise/kelvin in that one seems to have more in common with Star Fleet than most others - clearly visible 'point defence' phasers with a different function and appearance to the main guns, the concept of shooting down torpedoes en route, and much larger shuttle capacities (enough to actually achieve something during an evacuation).

Yeah, we generally assumed that was 'wrong' and it was in fact smaller :)

I've always found the Enterprise, and hence all derived ships, to be a very pleasing size.

Big enough to be big, but small enough to... I dunno. Feel like a real vehicle.

If they take requests, I'd like to see pictures that show the scale of the vehicles. So men in vac-suits painting Red Dwarf on the side of a ship, or repair crews working on a nacelle or something.

One of a few reservations I had about the new movie was increasing the size of the Enterprise. The other was the plot. But other than that it was great.

My vote goes to the "less bland, more sizzle" team. There's really no reason for a completely original ship design to look like 7 pieces of plastic strip glued together.
