Starline 2500 Federation Light Dreadnought, The Splendid Cat

While I have played SFB in the past, I can't claim any real knowledge of the system, so the Federation 'shield' shaped saucer sections surprise me. Are they a new for ACTA or a holdover from SFB?

Barticus, the spade-shaped saucers are for fast ships only, it has something to do with the shape of the warp field (less "warp drag"). You see something similar on the Fast Cruiser. It's from SFB. Remember that these ships aren't just for ACTA but also for SFB, FC, and Star Fleet Armada/Starmada, so there won't be any "ACTA-specific" ship designs.

Does that not rule out the possibility that some official SF: ACTA ships are made then converted back - can't see why that would not work? I am sure the Mongoose designers could come up with some sleek new ships which are still somewhat the SFU version of Trek............

Its nice to get the opportunity see the ships being designed but it appears they will absolutely not be any significant changes to them beyond the odd phaser bump here and there so I thought it was a bit pointless posting on the design threads on the ADB board so i guess I'll just see what they come up with?

I wouldn't say its impossible that Mongoose will ever design their own ships/hulls for CTA:SF, but for now they've got enough material to work with that they can just use that and put those design resources into Noble Armada or another game.

Hmm... first time I have seen one of these (my SFB collection is a little "dated" now) and I must admit I like the design. I think my Federation squadron might be getting a little boost when this one comes on the market.

Anyone like to make a comment on its abilities for those of us not in the know??

Nerroth linked to the FedCom SSD on the FedCom website. But to sum it up:

It'll probably be a fast ship
Command/Flag Vessel
5 Photon torpedo tubes
Same Phaser armament and arcs as a Constitution Class cruiser (10 Ph-1, 2 Ph-3)
3 Drone Launchers
Should have the same shields as a DNG, but a somewhat more fragile hull (maybe 10-12 points less damage).

My guess is it'll be somewhere around 300 points.

As a point of comparison, the Ship Card for the DNL can be found here; only the Squadron Scale version is relevant in this case.

There aren't many holes left in the fleet to insert a new class of ship into. But, sure, there's no reason a new ACTA ship couldn't go into FedCmdr / SFB / F&E. Thee were ships invented for F&E and later ported to SFB. I would assume, however, that SVC might not want a new ship in ACTA if there's no way to shoehorn it into the other games as he strives for consistancy across all SFU games.

Ships get added to the universe, not to any specific game. They may appear first in one game or another, but I don't think you'll ever see any unit that only appears in one game and not in any others. That's what I meant by "no ACTA-specific".
