Something that may lend itself to Traveller is the space combat aspect, which is where the Traveller combat system wanted to do. Will be interesting to see it.

I noticed a link on Paizo's main page a few months ago. It says that its planned to be released August 2017, so expect to wait a while. I plan to pick up a copy to see if it is any good.

I plan to pick up a copy as a fan of sci-fi and of Pathfinder.
It's up to them how good it is, though (I think they'll do fine).

I still have FFG's Dragonstar. Not sure I need a second D&D in space. I used to use Traveller adventure converted to Dragonstar. Still, curious to see how compatible their space combat system could be compared to Traveller. So far, tabletop combat whether freestyle or hex based has always been vector based.

I prefer Magic to be extra or optional to the setting The Question is will Starfinder work without magic, the question is whether magic is integrap to he setting, or is it something in addition to it. Dragonstar for instance relied on magic for its FTL drive, a ship needed a teleport spell to teleport from system to system. What I'm looking for is a Generic System, where the Referee can create his own setting, and decide whether magic exists in his Universe or not. Pathfinder is a Generic setting for Fantasy, you can use Pathfinder for other setting beside the official PAthfinder setting, and I'm hoping the same thing holds true for Starfinder Magic being another layer to the setting that the Referee decides to add or not. To me it sounds like a version of Star Wars with Magic substituting for the Force. You can have wizards, and cleric in space, but they aren't essential to the setting. Fighters shoot at each other with lasers. My idea of Science Fantasy is a mostly technological setting, where you may see a few wizards or clerics, but they are not common place or routine, they are more the stuff of legend. Fighters and Rogues are a dime a dozen however.

You science fiction people have trouble separating the role playing game from the setting, the two are separate. You could use the Pathfinder game to play a Forgotten Realms campaign, or a Dragonlance campaign, I've even seen write-ups for Draconians converted to the Pathfinder game. It is very easy to convert something from D&D 3rd edition to Pathfinder. I even once converted the classic Module: The Keep on the Borderlands to Pathfinder and played it! What I am looking for is a Generic Science Fiction role playing game with magic that is compatible with Pathfinder, but where magic is not integral to the game mechanics. For example, you can play the Star War Role Playing Game without the Force, the Force is something extra. The future of a specific setting is only one where the game mechanics of Starfinder might be used. I am looking for a Science Fiction Role playing game where the setting is only one of many possible ones where he game can be used. One reason there's a resistance to Traveller advancing on it's timeline and technology, is because we haven't really done so, no advanced robotics, cyber augmentation or extended lifespan.

We can accept it, and psionics, because we can cook up some pseudo-scientific basis for it, but magic really breaks disbelief in science fiction; the unwritten rules that our expectations create.

Also, hate the concept of character classes and levels in anything beyond medieval fantasy.

When I went to gencon the year before last, there still were tables of people playing Mongoose d20 Starship Troopers. Mongoose couldn't do Traveller without MWM's permission, they could still do their own thing; MWM should license the 3I IP to other rules sets to capitalize on it, such as FATE or Savage Worlds. Not counting the expected Galaxiad, there hasn't been movement in the timeline since the 1248 stuff ten years ago.

Why? Character classes and levels aren't any more realistic in medieval fantasy than in science fiction. D20 has a mechanic where if you take a lot of damage at once, you roll to save against sudden death. I thought T20 was a bit kludgy, on one hand it had levels and classes, on the other hand it tried to negate the effects of those extra levels in created by using two kinds of hit points, one for critical hits, which was based on your Constitution score and the other called Stamina which was similar to D&D hit points, I also didn't like the fact that it had 8 ability scores instead of 6. I think Social Standing should have transposed to Charisma and Education should have transposed to Intelligence. I don't know what Starfinder spaceships would look like.

I completely agree. I'm not to fond of them for medieval fantasy either
